Red light cameras

Yes, it's been known for quite a while now that red light cameras seem to increase rear end collisions. Officials tend to claim that this is immaterial as the number of more serious injuries due to t-bone collisions is reduced.

I thought that was implied in my statement ;)

The one thing I don't know if anyone has actually studied, is if red light cameras actually have an effect on the number of red light runners. I would like to see them put up the same cameras in hidden locations, for several years prior to putting up the signs, and then monitor the results for a year after the signs go up.

So you guys think it's the cameras fault that more idiots are rear ending people?

A guy at work got caught in Toronto. He went to court and they reduced it by $100. It seemed to be the standard deal, everybody got $100 off, nobody beat it completely.

If he went to court doesn't that mean he had to sign an admission of guilt? Therefore making a fine-only ticket into a conviction?

Amber light means "STOP" unless its unsafe to do so. Not speed up before the red lights up and then keep going until the other sides green goes on and they start moving.

People running red lights is a HUGE problem here (father in law got T bones by one) so is tailgating which means when someone decides to stop at the yellow people behind them dont have time to react and end up rear ending the car in front. All in all it comes down to bad driving habits and not enough policing of the laws. IMO there should be MORE red light cameras and cops on the roads cracking down on this.

The camera ticket is money against the owner of the vehicle. It is not applied to any specific driver, there are no points awarded and it doesn't affect your insurance.

If you want a court record that doesn't incriminate you, just agree in court that that is your vehicle and you agree to pay the reduced fine, you never need to identify the driver.

My dad got one, if you fight it you get a lower fine cause they can't prove who is driving at the time.

Correction: You get a lower fine because they want to minimize the costs of court time. They don't need to prove who was driving in order to levy the full fine, by explicit statement of law.

Cool, makes sense. Was going on what my father told me and he probably understood wrong cause ESL.

Problem with this is that people are so afraid of running the red that they slam on their brakes even when theblight is still green. Happens all the time on bovaird and dixie. The pedestrian countdown goes to zero, but the light doesn't go amber until a few seconds later.

I don't know about you guys, but I try to look ahead of the car infront of me and when I see clear road I end up driving a little closer. These stupid cameras lead to a lot of pathetically timid drivers causing even more problems than usual.

"need more red light cameras

The cameras are nto the problem. DRIVERS ARE OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM. Drivers are too impatient. They tailgate (illegal), they anticipate rather than react (illegal, look it up) and they feel like everyone should get out of their way. Anyone who rams someone from behind is a bad driver and will get in an accident regardless of cameras at some point. But ya blame it on the camera LMAO"

The above is a quoted reply to the article. I guess the arguement being presented is that even if you see a truck about to ram you from behind, you should stay put and just suck it up. After your six months in an ICU you can point at the other driver from your wheelchair and laugh because he got a ticket for following too close. Sick X 1000

Another reply blamed the problem on turbans in dump trucks. (His words not mine) I guess they don't have texting soccer moms in KW.

Those are just idiots, too.

Red light running is a pet peeve of mine. Sure, sometimes it happens by accident, although it shouldn't, but in that case you pay the fine and deal with it. There are so many people that run them on purpose... it's crazy.
