Probably because the guy talking to the jumper is the record holder and didn't want all of his records shattered in one day.

Meh...do it without oxygen and in a Borat manthong and I'll be impressed. It's not like the guy was going to get lost...there's only one way down to the ground and when he landed he had a whole ****ing desert to land in....the biggest enabler here was the technology to let him do the jump which actually makes the 1960's effort that much more impressive.
