Recommended helmets for a "long oval" headshape...

So,

I went and tried on a bunch of helmets today at Two Wheel in Guelph and some were comfy and some were torture. Tyler comes over and I start asking him about headshapes. He hands me some helmets as an example of each and the one that fit really well was the Arai Signet-Q. After some research I now understand why I have found my Icon Alliance helmets so comfortable; they are considered a long oval as well.

So, other than the Arai Signet-Q what would be highly recommened/quality full face helmets with a long oval headshape?

Wowsa...

Welcome back MM...

I was surprised when I tried on the RX-Q. My chin was right at the front of the helmet. I am a definitely a long oval head shape. Thanks for the link. Will check it out.

Still looking for another bike?

Bring on the BAN HAMMER!

Hey Zoodles, I'm a long oval as well, and I also have an Icon Alliance that fits me well. The good news is that a lot of the race helmets have a long/narrow profile - AGV GP Tech/Corsa, Bell Star, Shoei X-12, Arai Corsair V, etc. Bad news is that those are expensive.

The Shoei RF-1100 is also quite long front-to-back - you can get one on closeout for less than 300 bucks these days.

I wear an Arai Profile I got about 1.5 years ago on clearance. It was discontinued and replaced by the Signet Q, so if there are any around, they'll be very cheap. I had a shark which wasn't too bad, but I could feel pressure on my forehead which got annoying after a while. Profile is awesome.

Unfortunatly, Matt, all the helmets you mentioned are for INTERMEDIATE oval NOT LONG OVAL...there's a difference.....

long oval = head shape of captain Packard(sp?) of star trek ( Patrick Stewart)..

...alas , most North Americans have an intermediate to long oval head shape so guys like us are not going to get the top of the line helmets cause they just won't fit right!

You can still make it work. Trust me, I'm a real long oval, so much so that The Signet-Q is one of very few helmets that I can wear in a Large - everything else needs to be XL.

I own an XL Bell Vortex which is also an Intermediate Oval - I just swapped the cheekpads for thicker ones. Nice comfy lid.

I guess my point is, outside of HJC and some other brands, we alien-shaped fellas can wear a surprisingly large number of lids.

For the record, I currently own 6 helmets. 3 of them I've had to modify to fit my head. It doesn't have to be perfect right off the shelf, although that's certainly a plus.

Interesting... I was wearing a large Signet-Q and like you posted I generally have to wear an XL in other helmets I try on. With the new Snell 2015 coming maybe I can find a great deal on a leftover Snell 2010 Signet-Q.

I have been watching a ton of videos and reviews of the higher end helmets. Now I am starting to see where some of that price premium goes. The removable 5mm pads in the Arai helmets allowing you to finetune the fit etc.

I was able to wear an XL RF-1100 but from what I have read the RF-1200 wears differently.

In that sandbox (Signet-Q, RF-1200), what are the usual suspects to cross shop? Some Bell, Schuberth, Nolan, AGV? Would anyone seriously consider the Icon Airframe Carbon RR if you were already in the ballpark of a Shoei RF-1200 or Arai Signet-Q?
