Any idea why I can not get that $5000 rebate with the purchase of electric motorcycle, like Zero?

Government says
Zero-emission vehicles - Transport Canada

What vehicles are eligible?

  • vehicles with six seats or fewer, where the base model (trim) Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is less than $45,000
    • higher priced versions (trims) of these vehicles, up to a maximum MSRP of $55,000, will also be eligible for an incentive
AND
  • vehicles with seven seats or greater, where the base model MSRP is less than $55,000
    • higher priced versions (trims) of these vehicles, up to a maximum MSRP of $60,000, will also be eligible for an incentive
There are two levels of incentive:
  • Battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and longer range plug-in hybrid vehicles (battery capacity is 15kWh or more) are eligible for an incentive of $5,000
  • Shorter range plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (battery capacity is less than 15kWh) are eligible for an incentive of $2,500
Please refer to the list of eligible vehicles.

Motorcycle is a vehicle, MSRP less than $45000, battery capacity can be more than 15kwh etc etc

(BTW I am selling BMW F800ST 2009 $4k only)

First, the stock zero is well under 10kwh. Even with the extended pack it’s not 15.

Secondly, most consumers would consider a motorcycle a pleasure vehicle/ or toy, not a genuinely viable 12 months of the year transportation solution in Canada, so the optics of giving consumers $5K to buy a (rather expensive comparatively) pleasure vehicle wouldn’t be good. People would cry foul like the days of Ontario giving people buying $150,000 Tesla’s their $14K rebate.

As a starting point, there is a comprehensive list of eligible vehicles provided and bikes aren't on there. Secondly, there may be a definition of vehicle somewhere that rules out bikes.

not very complicated...it's because the general public who vote for the political decision makers don't give a flyin fuke about electric motorcycles

Because motorcycles aren't special....and we're not special for riding them. We like to think of ourselves as special, but we're not. We're a nuisance in the eyes of the gov't and the law. Very unfortunate.
