Rear Ninja 250r Tire

Hey guys,

I just got a 2009 Ninja 250r with the rear tire that might need replacing to pass safety. Do you know any good places to get a new or used one that would have enought tread on it? What would be a decent price?

Coz I've looked it up in Kijiji and Ebay and I was only able to find them in 200$ range. Is that how it's normaly is?

Thanks!!!

i think i paid $200 for front and rear, but if u dont have the money right now. i got my safety at crappy tire, i mean canadian tire, the mechaninc just went for a ride in the parking lot and 2.8 min later said ok its good :D
so i paid and go the hell out of there. afhter a few months of riding someone told me my front tire was mounted on backwards lol
ye i was wondering why every time i would let go of the handels the the front would instantly start to wobble. ah well live and learn :D

By far the best choice of tires for our bike, and it's what I have on mine. Probably the best price you'll find on them right now too. Motorcycle Superstore charges $225 USD for them, shipped to the lower 48. You then have to drive across to Buffalo ($40 fuel), pick up the package ($5 holding charge), then bring them across and hope they don't charge you taxes, which will be another $30 if they do. Thus, not worth going across to buy them. However, back when I bought mine, I picked up the tires for $150, and I was already heading across to the US. Didn't pay taxes coming back, even after I declared them.

If you want to stick to stock tire sizing, and not have a pinched rear tire:

110/70R17 front & 130/70R17 rear
Total: CA$ 255.26, taxes and shipping to your door included

If you want something stickier, but will not last as long: Pirelli Sport Demons. However, Pete doesn't have the rear in stock. In fact, back in August, he didn't either. This may be a supplier issue.

Also, if you just need a set of tires to throw on for now, I've got my stock IRC Roadwinners in my garage. $20 and they're yours.

buy a race scrub front rire and run it on your rear 120-70r17? you will get a tire with tones of meat for $30

Wow! Horizon did all the work for you. Now this is why it's good to be a member of GTAM. And a nice offer to get you on your why cheap. Very nice!!!!

It's nice to see that you've done your homework Horizon, but there are a couple key things that you mentioned that I disagree with;

The best choice of tires for our bikes is very debatable, but as far as some owners are concerned (based on forums), both the BT-45's and Perreli Sport Demons are excellent choices. They seem to provide excellent traction while still maintaining low tire wear. Most riders would recommended keeping the stock tire sizes (110/70-17 Front / 130/70-17 Rear) to preserve the 'flick-abilty' of the bike; after all the look (which sometimes is the main reason for a size upgrade on the Ninja 250) of a 130 vs 150 rear tire would only be noticeable by you. Also, an issue of mounting 150's on the rear is having the rear tire 'pinch' the rim, as shown by pictures below (albeit the BT-016's don't have as much 'pinch' to them).

Pete's (superbikes) is selling the BT-45 Front and Rear for around 275 shipped to your door. The Sport Demons (which I am interested in purchasing) are currently out of stock.

Here are some opinions from a different forum that I suggest you read. You will notice that the opinions on different tires do vary, but it will definitely help you make your decision.

Any tire is better than those stock IRCs, so my recommendation would be to swap both tires and enjoy the traction!

Here's the review I did on the BT-016s: http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...idgestone-Battlax-BT-016-Tires-on-a-Ninja-250

I agree with everything you've stated. But the effect of pinching and reduced flickability is minimal at best, and is more than made up for by the increased grip offered by these tires, being radial (allowing newer tech) instead of cross-ply.

Tires are a debatable subject for any bike. Any of those tires will be more than adequate. I would also recommend the stock size as there is no real advantage to the bigger tires outside of looks and they will still look small compared to a 600 running a 180, plus you lose a bit of flick-ability/turn in. Most 250 riders aren't going to be getting near the limits of grip any of those tires provide anyway (illustrated well in the pics of the 150).

+1

If you buy a larger tire for looks, you're an idiot. I bought it because a) it was a steal of a deal @ $150 for the set b) I do push my bike pretty hard, so I wanted at least the perception of increased grip. If you buy the larger rear knowing the pros/cons of it, good on you.

Otherwise, the BT-45s get my vote, or the Sport Demons if you can find them.

Nice read for me as I'm getting new tires soon for my 250R as well - Looks like I should go with the BT-45.

I got the Bt-45 140 rear. Its pretty good and I push it pretty hard, my chicken strips aren't noticable thicker. I was a skeptic at first in regards to a larger rear tire but have experienced nothing detrimental or the usual symptoms you hear of. I plan on going with the Bt-016's next as well.

I just wanted to note that the information in that wiki is for pre-2008 models.

Yes, i forgot to mention that.

The tires should still apply, just get the right size for the correct model.

For 2008 + you need to get these sizes.

Tire: Front 110/70-17
Tire: Rear 130/70-17
