Really pushing it with this oil filter

I posted recently about how I went for my 1000km service on my 2011 CBR 250 (and got raped :violent1: on the price). They told me that oil filters are on back order everywhere. They are expected to arrive late next week at the Honda dealership in Kitchener.

The dealership that did my service did an oil change, drained the filter and put it back on the bike. The guy told me it should be ok for a few thousand more kilometers but I should change the oil before the next service (and the filter of course).

I understand that the oil filter should be changed at 1000km because little bits of metal from machining the engine get in to the oil. I commute about 200 km a day (highway) and by the time the oil filter comes in I will probably be at around 3000 kilometers.

Should I just park my bike until the oil filter arrives, or should it be ok?

Mechanic told me that this would not affect my warranty.

Why do you need a Honda oil filter? There's plenty of good substitutes. I use Amsoil oil filters.. they're pretty bad ***!!

What part number oil filter do you need for your CBR? I know sometimes manufacturers use the same filter in different vehicles, this is an off chance but I have an unused Honda filter for my VFR.. if yours is the same part number, feel free to take it it.. free of charge ;)

see if using a k&n filter will void warranty, if it does not then change oil and filter yourself, 5 minute job.

I wouldn't bother using OEM filters when there are many other brands out there that make equivalent-or-superior products.

Search for your bike on their sites:
K&N
AMSOIL
Fram (Click on Oil Filters at the top first)

These are just a few of the brands. If you think of more, go to their website.
Heck, call CT or PartSource (same inventory), Napa, etc...

Would I be able to use non honda parts under my warranty? Only reason I didnt confide one of them.

Just use the K&N oil filter!
Every shop has them, ie. Kahuna...

I have the same problem as well. KW Honda gave me the same story about the filter and I really don't want to go over 1k.

just called Partsource and they don't have any filters for the 250. Looks like I have to wait for the filters to come in. I have a feeling the dealer gave me an over optimistic arrival date for the filters..

Yes you can. Dealer is FOS if they say otherwise.

Emgo or Hi-flo filters. Have a hiflo on my bike right now.

Even if you just leave the original oil filter on there until the proper one comes in, it won't hurt anything. There is PLENTY of margin against clogging.
