Radar detectors?

Ok so I know they are illegal, but in the last week I have seen 3 of them on peoples cars clear as day... attached to the window like they are suppose to. How do they get away with it? Do they just take them down when they see popo?
I would assume its a big fine if they get caught, or am I missing something?

I guess sometimes people elect to not follow a law if it's not convenient to them :p ;) :D

If they are actually detectors, then they are tjust taking a chance. no differnent then eople on phones. They just expect to drop the phone into their lap if a copy rolls up...

I understand they have detector detectors, dont know how effective they are?

Escort has some cool detector/gps combos in the Passport IQ Series. not sure visually if you could differentiate between a regular GPS and this with radar detector capabilities?

ya that is pretty cool... these ones I see though are clearly just a detector... they sit right on the windown parallel to the the dash.. not gps looking at all!

I don't think you are seeing radar detectors, more than likely they are dash cams. My cam sits exactly where you are seeing them.

I got busted years ago with mine. Left it on in the city..I used it on the highway all the time but would turn it off when it would go off or in the city. Cops locked on me right away..stuff it into the emergency brake boot to hide it..cop walked up and said make life easy...just hand it over so I don't have to have your car torn apart..Ticket was stupid..like $250 range..but with all the tickets it saved me from it was worth it. Short of it is yeah..they can detect them.

No It is for sure a radar detector... very thin... and hovers out over the window, not dash cams at all! But like hdsomeday said, might be worthwhile if it saves you from other tickets. How do they detect your detector though?

Dashcam? My dashcam has a very slim profile, and looks like a radar detector with the cord going down the dash...;)

I heard people buy 2 of them.
They buy a cheap $10 unit so if you get busted give them that one.

We should all drive within the speed limit and according to road conditions.

so politically correct we are huh

opp maybe occasionally, local cops r all radar, and radar by opp while moving. here you have to use sti driver kind device which is undetectable. I got busted with cobra cheap crap by unmarked traffic cop, appealed for trial, they couldn't get started in three times, filed b11 on fourth, crown withdrew, it was end of it. Tried to claim my unit but to no prevail as it was supposed to be another case.

OPP use tripod mounted laser and portable laser on the 400 series as well as car-mounted radar while moving. Toronto, York, and Durham (as I know cops in all three regions but not Peel or Halton) all use Tripod-Mounted laser and portable radar as well as car-mounted radar. Therefore, I've found a radar detector pretty useless unless it's in tandem with a laser jammer.

Police can detect most radar detectors except the $1000+Bell and STI units easily, the high end stuff they need to be using a device to detect it within 30cm(?) of the device. Jammers are not detectable with any device, they need to tear open the car to find them and if you're smart about it they won't have reason to.

Not that I use any of these mind.

1000?, sti driver http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bonus-Beltr...575?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item2a37cf33ff totally undetectable could sit side by side with spectre rdd and wouldn't make a sound.

-_- why would you post a used one on eBay when I'm talking about brand new? And good luck doing a full "stealth" install yourself.

I'm talking about this: http://www.kmph.ca/products/radar-detectors/beltronics-sti-r-plus.html

Not a windshield mounted unit. If you're gonna do it, do it right. A very close friend had that and the Antilaser G9 installed in his Evo with Veil paint and license plate covers and never got no tickets.

are you sure?

and there there's this... it's a fake radar detector with a spy cam

^ dont think cops use tripod lidar that much in the winter. Cd sun visor organizers can hide the unit pretty well. They are very useful for the odd police vehicle on the back roads. I don't have one... just dreaming.
