So I’m looking at buying my first 1-piece race suit. I’ve never worn one before, but I’ve tried reading up on what to expect when wearing a 1 piece suit. Stuff like not being able to stand up straight without getting a moose toe and such.
To start off, I’m 6’-0” and 140lbs.
I went to GP Bikes yesterday and tried on the Teknic Xcelerator in a US40 and a Teknic Chicane in a US42. I tried the Xcelerator first and it felt fitted while in the riding position, fully tucked. I felt a bit of pressure against my chest while in the full tuck position but not enough to prevent me from not breathing. Of course, if I tried to stand up straight, I felt a lot of pressure around my crotch region and had to walk with my back hunched over. Possible issues? The suit sat 3.5-4” above my ankle and 2” above my wrist (is that bad?). Also, how far up should one be able to stand with a proper fitting suit? Is there a rule of thumb?
I then tried on the Chicane suit. It was much easier to get into and I was able to stand straight up without any pressure on my crotch. That made me think it was too big in the torso section since there was no pressure and it was also slightly too baggy around my thighs. I wore a back protector for both suits.
I feel like I either need to lose 2 or 3 inches of my height OR gain 20-30lbs to fit nicely into the US42. Either option is unrealistic for me since I have a crazy fast metabolism and I won’t be gaining weight anytime soon.
Let me know what you guys think of this.
Thanks
