I'll just repeat what I've said elsewhere:

101hp and 170kg dry. No trick transmission. If you add the race kit to get 212hp, it meets no emissions - either sound or exhaust, and you probably couldn't pass the meter at 'Bogie. It is illegal on the street at full power, and the full power isn't spectacular. Nothing is replacable at a reasonable price, or is irreplacable, period.

Errrrrrr, no thanks.

Think I'd rather buy a new diesel truck, upgrade my toy hauler, pick up two RSV4 RRs with track package, two ZX6Rs, a big tupperware box full of track spares and lots of vinyl logos to put on everything, with the team name of "RC213V-S Racing". Then I could tell everyone that my whole operation cost less than a RC213V-S when they asked.

I'd even have a 200hp+ V4 out of the deal. Er wait, two of them. And a couple 600s. And a diesel truck. Air conditioning and a fridge at the track. Power canopy. Cold beer. A place to shag at night.

Just sayin'

There's a foolish amount of money chasing "collector" automobiles and bikes these days.

Maybe I'm not technical enough, but I just don't understand the hype about this bike. The Kawi H2R I can see.. but this is really not that special. Ducati tried the "road legal race bike" thing with the Desmosedici RR back in 07-08; the re-sale on those have been horrid. Even the cache of the Ducati brand can't help move those.

God forbid you ever have an incident with these bikes, the repair costs will be astronomical.

I am kicking myself for not making the Aprilia's witness joke.

Anywho... sorta semi-surprised about the Desmosedici's current street price, but then it was pretty expensive and it hasn't been that long since. It does take some doing to make a bike actually appreciate in value.

I look at the projected horsepressure levels for the street, and at first I think, yeah I get that. They had to figure out a way to get a race motor on the street, noise & emissions blah blah blah. 100hp does kinda reek of minimum effort, though. Designing a catalyzed exhaust & validating an engine tune for it probably isn't cheap, but if they sell every bike they make they are pulling in at least 40 million USD... I think they could have tried harder.

Can someone explain the comically overbuilt swingarm? It's another thing I don't understand.

The swingarm is for a 250hp+ MotoGP bike. Not this lame duck.

Incidentally, the full horsepower kit won't be offered in North America. Just to make it even better.

I am 100% sure people will find a way to get their hands on those kits. Possibly even 100% of the people in North America who are willing to throw down nearly two hundred Gs for this bike

What if Honda EU (for example) won't sell the kit to anyone but a registered owner... and only one kit per owner? Don't think it can't happen.

Step right up... for boat-like depreciation.

Desmocidici - brand new. Posted last year .. and as of 4 months ago "Ivan Ho 4 months agoThe bike has not been sold; we have not received a decent offer yet. "

There are also 2 more on cycletrader.com asking in the 50's... no bites. And the Duc has 200hp.. (granted they made 1500 of them)
