Questions on Rider training course

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions about the rider training course.

First, Does the course run rain or shine? (seems like it would be difficult learning to ride in the rain.. hey, maybe good experience)

Second, gear.... Is there places to rent? Now I plan on getting a bike within a year or so and buying gear now isn't a deal breaker, but someone that might come with me probably doesn't want to buy a whole bunch of expensive gear.

Third? Just for the training sakes are they strict on gear? Like I have leather gloves for in the winter that come up over my wrist, I have work boots that are high tops, but are laces a deal breaker?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Typically rain or shine, unless it's especially bad. The experience will pay off in spades :P.

Gear doesn't usually have to be motorcycle specific. Leather jacket of any sort (no CE armor required) maybe heavy denim; course specific. Heavy jeans (denim) at least, and natural material, thick gloves. Leather gloves covering wrist should do the trick. I managed with a pair of gardening gloves. Boots coming up above the ankle are almost always a must, laces are not a problem. Just tie them like an adult :P. Steel toe are usually frowned upon, only because they make feeling the levers difficult. Don't know any places to rent gear, personally.

Helmet are strictly required to be DOT approved, anything with that stamp.

Any more specific questions will likely be best addressed to whoever is running the course.

there are a few places in toronto you can rent, studio cycle group does it, my friend rented from them. i think its like 25$ to rent a helmet from them and 75 to get the helmet, gloves, and jacket... for the shoes get some work book that arent steeltoed because you need to actually feel the levers a bit

personally i just ended up going out and buying some basic gear when there was a sale, so got a helmet, gloves, jacket and boots for 400... saved a tonne, and i had decent first year gear... ill probably upgrade my helmet this year.

my friend is taking the course in a couple months, she ended up only buying a helmet, thats basically all you need since all the other gear you can find around your place.

when i did the course they said rain or shine the course will go on, so asked us to dress appropriately, so if it rains yyou should have a waterproof outfit... i took a risk and didnt bring one :P thankfully it didnt rain, but it was VERY COLD... 2 sweaters on me and my motorcycle jacket to keep me warm. but the course is super fun.. enjoy. ride safe.

I did my course last year at Humber. 1 day dry, 1 day wet. As for gear, $75 at Studio Cycle Group got me the helmet, jacket & gloves. Now don't quote me on the next part but the person I dealt with (he seemed new) told me that when the course was over, I could put the initial $75 towards the purchase of a jacket or helmet. Not bad if you ask me. Never did go back to take them up on the offer so I never did find out if it was a legitimate offer.

If you need a jacket for the course I have an extra I'm willing to lend out but it's mesh. Some classes allow it some don't. Personally, I wish all schools allowed mesh cause it gets ****in' hot on that parking lot!

Depends on the course, some instructors are chill they allow things.
Cheap route- This is what I did, I went to walmart bought some hiking boots, motocross helmet(dot approved), and I already had leather jacket/ gloves from winter. Use them for 2days, return it the next day. Spend $0 on gear :)

When I got my bike, I got bought some matching gear.

Thanks for all the input guys I appreciate it. The renting from studio cycle sounds pretty good to me. Might go that way

I did the walmart thing for my boots. I borrowed a buddies gloves, had an unarmored leather jacket, and I picked up a helmet cheap before the course. Niagara College also has a rain or shine policy, we had rain the end of day one but day two was nice and sunny

When i did my course with RTI it was in October. It was raining pretty good and was freezing. I'm glad i learned in the rain like that though. Now when it's raining i just ride on without fear.
