Question re Non-Related Classified Ads

We have a home in Mississauga and a cottage in the Kawarthas and both of us are retired.

We've made a decision to sell the Mississauga place and buy a condo. Upkeep on 2 places is too time consuming for us.

No specific timeline on this, but we have a ton of duplicate items that will not be needed at the cottage or will not fit in a smaller condo and I want to get started on this vs. leaving it to the last moment.

I plan to use Kijiji to some extent to sell off things we don't need, and this will include a ton of tools and stuff you'd find in your garage and basement.

Question............ I see relatively few things in the non-related classified ads. Do people feel that posting there is worth the time and effort or should I just skip this and use Kijiji exclusively. Yes, I know I can post a few items and see how it works, but thought I'd ask. Other thing is I've been a Kijiji member for 15 years and, in general, it works well, but there is a certain percentage of Kijiji Idiots who waste your time coming to see something for sale and then offer you 20% of what you are asking, or they never show up and you wonder if they plan to come back in the night to rip you off. I'd be hoping to avoid some of this by using this forum's classified ads.

I would consider this forum to have a "limited" active user base.
Therefore we don't see many ads. I would still post here, but consider another source as the main. Such as Kijiji etc.

I would post here. May be simpler to put a single garage clear out post than 20 items posted separately. While the buyer pool is smaller here, you have some concept of the people so you are less likely to have people ghost you. Nobbie sold his mill in a couple days here. Nice to see it go to a fellow enthusiast too.

I would say post them here but keep in mind that you may or may not get lots of traction from the ads here.
You are advertising to a small community compare to Kijiji or FB marketplace.
I have seen sellers offer a “forum discount” on items before posting them to the general public.
Not sure if you will do that but that might get the items sold quicker.

I’m sure I would like to look through your ads because you know….I really need more junk that “I don’t need”.

My recommendation is post on Kijiji and FBMP as the primary, with a potential small ad here to link to the others.

There's a very limited pool of buyers here compared to the others, and you would be doing yourself a disservice by only posting here and not the others.

For me personally, I add on here because I'm willing to provide good deals compared to the other listings.

I have sold very little things to other GTAM members. But a few items did get sold to someone here, and vice versa.

When I moved out of my long time home in Mississauga, I had a ton o' crap in the garage... tools and stuff that you collect over the years. Nobody wanted it.
I kept an eye out and when a young family bought a house on the next block they got a house warming gift of a couple ladders, various trimmers, rakes, shovels and other implements of destruction.
... but most of it went to landfill
