I'm staying with my in-laws at the moment and the kid next door has a 2002 SV650. One of the round ones with carbs
He had the oil changed about 2 weeks ago at Suzuki of Brampton??? and was putting it away for the winter when he noticed the oil level was over the top of the glass. He asked me if I could have a look.
My first though was that Suzuki had overfilled it, but it looked very dark for being in the bike 2 weeks. I put a screwdriver in the filler hole and the oil that came out felt really thin and smelled of gas.
I drained it and got about 3.3 litres of oil out. Its supposed to take 2.9 with a filter change. Its quite thin as well and did smell of gas. I assume these things run 10w40
My first thought is that the fuel cut-off is faulty allowing the gas to flow through without engine vacuum and dumping it right into the carbs. If the float is sticking or the level if wrong it could fill up the manifold/head or if the inlet is open drain into the cylinder. Could it get into the sump from there? Does this sound right?
It must have happened between the time Suzuki changed the oil and this morning. You would think a mechanic would notice this. Fortunately he only rode it home.
Any thoughts or other theories gratefully received
