No, this is the language police. Too many out of town kids come in and speak english. The language police want the language of casual conversation to be exclusively french.I guess this might be in response to the issue we are discussing in the other 900,000 students thread.
That's another way of putting it.No, this is the language police. Too many out of town kids come in and speak english. The language police want the language of casual conversation to be exclusively french.
Out of country kids...No, this is the language police. Too many out of town kids come in and speak english. The language police want the language of casual conversation to be exclusively french.
Out of province kids.Out of country kids...
I’d go the other way, offer full ride scholarships to the top 20% CGEP students - suck the brains out of Quebec.Solution is clear............ Every province must adjust their tuition for Quebec students to match the new rate for English speaking non Quebecers.
I thought that ship had sailed.suck the brains out of Quebec.
I can understand for international students since theyre most likely leave after their studies...
My thinking is that this is more based towards international students, but using the term "english" prevents any major backlash..Tuition fees by university - Universities Canada
Tuition for full-time Canadian and international students in an arts and humanities program at the undergraduate level.www.univcan.ca
From what i see here, most universities already charge more than double in ontario compared to quebec universities.
While i think what they're doing here is a dumb move, they do cost lower than market price lol
I can understand for international students since theyre most likely leave after their studies... but for canadian students i think it's stupid/unfair.
They specifically state that this is related to out of province. If they meant international, I expect they would say international. My thinking is that this is more based towards international students, but using the term "english" prevents any major backlash..
Would not "out of Province" relate to any student that does not reside in the Province regardless of where they come from? They specifically state that this is related to out of province. If they meant international, I expect they would say international.
"Legault defends tuition hike for out-of-province students as means to protect French
Premier says having so many English-speaking students in Quebec hurts French language
Premier François Legault says increasing university tuition for out-of-province students will help protect the French language by limiting the number of anglophones studying in Quebec."
if you look at the link i shared, theres a rate for canada then another for international/foreign.Would not "out of Province" relate to any student that does not reside in the Province regardless of where they come from?
Not trying to start something, but I feel they are just being creative with the wording. But who knows maybe they are changing tactics and being honest...
The subsidy part makes sense. Based on the words coming out of their mouths, this is primarily a language issue and then they searched around for some justification that didn't sound so insular. English is an official language and punishing those that speak an official language seems like a quick path to a loss in court. Arguing about subsidies in court may be a win. Although, I expect blowback and other provinces may reciprocate against students from quebec using the funding logic.if you look at the link i shared, theres a rate for canada then another for international/foreign.
canada rate will double for english universities only and only for kids that don't reside in quebec, and international/foreign will (also!?) increase
basically part of the logic in there was that quebecers were subsidizing the education for people who were not staying in the province. so kiddos come and study at an english university, taxpayers pay like $200 millions in subsidies for them to study and kiddo then goes bye bye from the province after they get their paper.
Yeah i guess the big difference is, there are probably more chances that you'll gtfo from quebec after studying in english. If you study in french in quebec, and you're from canada, there won't be any cost difference. The subsidy part makes sense. My wife did a few degrees in QC. She never planned on staying. Education and out. Now, she did date a Quebecois so if that had worked out maybe she would have stayed.Yeah i guess the big difference is, there are probably more chances that you'll gtfo from quebec after studying in english. whereas if you were to study anywhere in the rest of canada in a french (which are few and far between) youre chances of staying in that other province are still up tehre and it doesnt mean youll automatically go to quebec.
once again, i think the whole thing is kind of stupid, i understand the premise of taxpayers funding/subsidizing people who won't end up contributing at all to their society but yeah in the end it's gonna pass as "you no french, screw you osti!"
