drain the carbs, leave the drain screws open and purge with compressed air. tighten screws again. if using side stand only, put a piece of plywood under it.
FZ6R is fuel injected, so no carbs to drain.
I've left my bike for long periods before, once was 18 months.
Filled the tank up completely and threw in stabil fuel stabilizer.
Fogged the cylinders.
Battery came out and was put on a tender (I would also bring it in to the house if I had a choice)
Put up on center stand (not sure if the FZ6R has one, but I think it might)
Clean and oil the chain
An old trick is to spray on WD-40 on the engine/frame to prevent surface rust. I used to do this on my old dirt bike (a painted steel frame like yours) just to prevent any moisture from sitting on the bike in storage (the WD-40 repels water).
Wash the bike really really well too.
Take the prep time to look for anything wrong with the bike. That way you can order any needed parts during the down time.
Oil and filter change.
Also, What I do when I go to get the bike fired up the next year is I'll get it running and burn off the fogging in the cylinders (exhaust will smoke, bike won't run smooth, that's just the oil being burnt off) and then I'll throw in a fresh set of spark plugs, do it every year. I just use the typical NGK plugs, I find they always work the best in my bikes and sled.
