Keep in mind that if the paperwork associated with the bike has anything on the title ("salvage", etc) then that frame with that VIN and that paperwork can never be registered on the road again in Ontario. If the insurance company has written off the bike then this will normally be the case.

hey guys, i was wondering where i could purchase damaged/written off motorcycles? what do insurance companies do with written off bikes? do they auction them?

Some motorcycle shops have contracts with insurance companies and buy the bikes from the insurance companies.

You could buy my damaged ZZR and save yourself the trouble :D

im pretty sure salvage can be put back onto the road at least for cars. they will be rebuilt title after. not sure about the rules on bikes

IRR titles can never get registered

edit: so if salvage bikes cant be legally put back in ontario, why not just brand them as IRR?

Whatever you put them as, you can track them, you can stunt them, but you can't put them on the street.

Cars can have None, Salvage, Rebuilt and Irrepairable.

There is no such thing as a Salvaged bike anymore, Everyone just uses that term.

For bikes there is:

None

  • Vehicle may have had a damage-related brand applied outside Ontario, or
  • Vehicle may have been damaged or rebuilt before March 31, 2003, or
  • Degree of damage does not meet branding criteria, or
  • Vehicle may never have been in a collision.

Irreparable

  • Vehicle has been written-off as a total loss.
  • Can only be used for parts or scrap.
  • Cannot be driven again in Ontario.

Very interesting, I've never heard of anybody successfully registering a branded (say US) bike in Ontario, but would be awesome if someone can figure it out.
