Purchased used 2006 GSX-R600 not starting

Friend just purchased a used 2006 GSX-R600. The owner was able to start it, and also drove it to his house for the sale. However the bike will not start anymore. When the key is turned on nothing lights up. We tried replacing the fuse and also switched to a battery we knew was working.

Any idea on what might be the issue?
Thanks!

If i were you id call the seller and ask him whats up...

Do you have the clutch lever held in? I'm not sure about the 06, but my buddy's 09 the clutch lever needs be held in when starting it.

Yes, we tried with the kick stand up and down (kill switch off of course). Also with clutch engaged and disengaged. Still, the instrument panel should at least light up when the ignition is switched to on and it's not.

Must be wiring, but the previous owner just rode it over today and it was working fine. It hasn't been started since the purchase this morning so nothing has changed or moved after the previous owner brought it over.

Does the bike use a chip key? Is it the same key he gave you that he used to ride to your buddy's house. Make sure the harness is fully connected and not spliced somewhere and is causing a loose connection.

Same key that he rode it over with. He didn't even take it out of the ignition when he got off. I've check as many harness connections as possible but I don't have a lot of experience working with wiring. Might need to get it checked out at a shop.

Sorry, the bike is a 2008 GSXR 600, rider1106 thought it was a 2006. He's also a buddy of mine. He has the same key that the seller rode it over with. We looked at the harness, didn't see any notable issues there. Is there anything is specific we should be looking for? Its gotta be a power related issue, because the cluster should light up at least right?

What does the seller say? How old is the battery? Has he had issues with the bike? I'd be checking with a voltmeter starting at the positive battery post. Really sounds odd that a known good battery does not work either. If you were closer to me I'd check it out.

Yeah, I went over earlier today and swapped batteries with my Ninja. His battery worked on my bike and my battery wouldn't work on his so its definitely not a battery issue. Really weird.

Check for a external kill switch, all the fuses especial the main fuse, ground wiring from the battery to the motor, cluster connector!

Go to www.gixxer.com and you will find tons of info...
If you do a search and nothing comes up then start a thread, you'll get tons of technical help.

Thanks guys, we will look at what dk_fabiosantos recommended as well check out gixxer.com (thanks Mina)
hopefully we can resolve this issue.

will keep GTAM posted. this is one of the oddest things i have seen in a long time relating to motorcycles.

that would seem to be the most logical path to take lol
Looks like the issue has been found/resolved. I'm just going to wait until everything is resolved between buyer/seller and ill post all the details/solution.

Thanks everyone for your help!

All working now. There were two issues really:
(1) Some really bad wiring for license plate LED's. When the seller took the plates off he tied these wires together which blew the 'signal' fuse'. Also, the cluster is on the signal fuse and not the ignition, which is why we didn't notice at first.
(2) The battery was low and I guess someone tried charging it with a car battery with the car on which blew the main fuse (luckily, and didn't damage any wiring). So, never have the car on when charging this way. Actually, just buy a battery tender.

Well it's all fixed now and only costed about $5.00, congrats on the purchase!
