Problem starting yamaha r6

I have a 2003 yamaha r6, last time I rode it was about a week ago and there was no issues with starting. Yesterday I tried to start it but couldn't get it to work:(. Basically when I turn the key all the guages and lights turn on but when pushing the ignition switch the bike engine doesn't turn, no clicks, nothing just dead quiet. I'm thinking It's got to be the starter but not sure can you guys please help me out, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
 
could it be as simple as the bike is in gear with the kickstand down? or engine on/ off switch off. (lot off people shut there bike off with the key and not the switch)
