Just trying to get the consensus on what people prefer. I understand that hitting up the open lapping days at tracks such as TMP is the cheapest option ($125) compared to almost double that with organized days from Pro6 or RC.

I'm curious to see what people prefer and why. I'm already considering getting instruction before so that's covered.. this is more for the future.

What makes organized track days worth the extra cost and between the main organizers.. what do ya'll recommend?

lol, and add your laptimes while you are at it

Rider's Choice put on really good days, always well organized and every one there is willing to give you a hand if you need it.
Haven't been to any PRO6 days but plan on doing a few Calabogie days this year and I always hear good stuff about their days/set up.
I've never ridden TMP but the majority of the people that I spoke to regarding that track say they tried it and would never go back, or use it as a filler when there's nothing else going on.

Mosport is definitely worth the extra $ and I'm betting that Calabogie will be as well.
2014 is going to be awesome indeed!

$125 - TMP
$150 - $170 - Shannonville (RC)
$170 - $230 - Mosport (RC, RDT/Big track)
$260 - Calabogie (P6)

Your best bet would be to try them all.

Pro6 will charge you a small fee if you're new to that particular track or track riding in general to have somebody work with you one on one in the early sessions. Rider's Choice do the same thing at no extra charge. Don't let that be a deciding factor, whichever track you go to, you will always find someone to help you out, at least that has been my experience so far. (Thanks Dave!)

Sounds like you're not comparing apples to apples. Pro6 and RC both host at places like Mosport big track, which cost over $200 to attend. TMP is a gokart track by comparison.

Pro6 host the best days I've been to in terms of organisation, consistency of tech and marshaling, and quality of attendees (ie, no weekend warriors showing off for their girlfriends).

+1,000,000 :p

Fair enough - I would like to try TMP first (since I am very familiar with it).. I know the layout well and think it would be an easy track to get my feet wet.

The only other track that seems manageable to get to is Mosport (I've only ever driven the OLD DDT track... which has since been changed)..

Everything else is soooooooooo faaaaaaaaar. I'm either in Mississauga or in North York.. so getting to places like Grand Bend or Shannonville is quite the trek... especially Calaboogie!! How do you guys do it? Is it just a commitment thing?

Once youve done Calabogie, youll see why we drive that far to ride it!

Comparing 5 km tracks to 2 km tracks. Flat track vs elevations (more marshals as to see all corners). Money spent on upgrades to facilities....

Bogie is the best. I grew up there so the 4 hour drive is normal to me. Plus I always stay for 2 days as a minimum.

This statement will become invalid once you're addicted ;)

My sister lives about an hour away from the track, so I'll be driving there on Friday evening, crash at her place then hit the track for Saturday and Sunday.
Plan on doing at least two weekends there.

Pictures of the sister and I might come with you

you'll find if you compare apples to apples (e.g. Riders Choice at Shannonville, vs. Pro6 at Shannonville, mosport, etc), the prices are actually quite close. Tracks themselves vary widely. Riders Choice, Pro6, racer5, etc all run excellent trackdays, with pro6 topping the list. If Guys With Bikes (GWB) run TMP trackdays (most long weekends I believe) its not bad.

If TMP runs the day themselves, its a bit of a s#$t show. Case in point @ TMP, a riders meeting that consisted of "you all know what your doing right?", tech showing up wicked late, ambulances not scheduled until 10, flag people that sit on their iphone not actually watching whats going on on the track, questionable riding that is not addressed by the marshalls, the list goes on.

Look at racer5.ca, even though grand bend might be a little further, its a great track and racer 5 does a great job running a day.

I'd start with the smaller, flatter tracks just to get a feel for track riding before going the longer ones with elevation changes. Baby steps.

I love Shannonville (long), Cayuga is good too. I havent tried Mosport. Calabogie is to far (have to invest at least two days if your going that far.) I mostly stay with Riderschoice at Shannonville. I did pro6 at Shannonville long last year and it was a bunch of good guys and good tech guys that help you out if you have any issues. Last year we did get a bunch of guys that pushed beyond their limits on Shannonville (Riderchoice). John was their to short out the group and almost ended the day unless people started acting more mature.

Pro6 runs the best days IMHO, and you get what you pay for. A day at bogie with Pro6 and a little sunshine is simply the best you are going to get in Ontario and worth every penny..... however Mosport is a close second, and again worth every penny.
