Prjoect Idea- What old bike parts can we use to help people e.g. pump water?

Hello Everyone,

I got the idea to post this because I saw the amount of energy being put into which phone is better thread.
People are spending their time arguing over companies that make billions of dollars.

So I know there are a lot of creative types as well as engineer types here.

What bike parts can we repurpose to create functional items?
Can we hookup the water pump to something or make it a manual turn to move water?
Can we use some of the electronics e.g. alternator to make a windmill to harness wind energy?

Negative people need not post. By doing so you agree to a one week ban:o

The floor is open.

you could clean the garage/shed/basement and sell off parts on kijiji or ebay or here and donate the cash raised to one of the already functioning charity groups that is helping out in the locale you favor. And get a tax reciept. Win Win.

A motorcycle water pump is very inefficient. A motorcyle alternator has a tiny output and has a hard time charging that little tiny motorcycle battery.
Any other ideas?

Like crankcall says; donate your bike to a charity... there are several that are motorcycle centric; try riders.org

You're OTB. There's already a cheap crankshaft mounted solution. $85. $75 ea. in bulk (10+)

Hope to submit m/c powered walnut crusher soon. Still shoring up some details on "proof of concept" design brief. Stay tuned.

You have a good idea but machining adapters for hundreds of different waterpumps and alternators makes mass effort rather impractical. Then if the pump fails an exact replacement must be found or a new adapter machined. It would be better as stated to ebay the parts to create a fund that would provide a standard pump / generator.

Most of us have no idea of how much power we use. In third world countries the poor don't have enough electricity to run a night light, charge a cell phone or laptop.

Most motorcycles use stators. They are kind of integrated in the transmission housing. They are very different from alternators.

The regulator/rectifier might be useful.
