Has anyone here had any experience with these? I know some PA stuff is absolute crap and some is adequate. I'm just wondering where this tool fits into the spectrum.
Gerry,
Thanks for the tip. It doesn't matter if it's metric or imperial for this project, but for future projects, metric would probably be more useful.
that tool isn't bad. i bought one a few years ago....quality is decent. If your not going to be installing 100's of inserts per day - it will do the job well.
I belive I've used that tool to install 10 inserts till now...but well worth it.
I bought one of these a few years back the first one I got was junk as the threads on the puller stripped right out. The replacement exchange one was better and has lasted a couple of years. I'd say I use it a couple times a year in various stays & subframes to install bolts, etc. The downfall to this is in imperial threads however, I was able to re tap the (1/4"?) insert with a metric tap as the threads were vary close and only needed a little love to make them work. It's a good occasional use tool but as frekeyguy said for anything requiring volume not the tool for those jobs.
Ive had one for years, as an occasional tool its great. My only drawback is dissimmilar metals, putting a stainless bolt into an aluminum hole = corrosion. I coat the bolt with dieelectric paste from the electrical dept at home depot and that works.
Just use care when making the hole to put the threaded thingy in. It wants to be clean and accurate so you get a good fit when you do the pop rivet thing. Once they spin out they are a bugger to fix.
