Pricing Suzuki vs Kawasaki

Hello,

I am new to the world of buying a motorcycle and I am a bit confused by pricing out there.

I am seeing a 2002 Z6R with 24000km for $3750
and a 2006 GSX Katana 600 with 10000km for $3400

Are they different leagues of bikes, is Suzuki cheaper than Kawi, or is it a steal?

Thanks!!!

ZX6R is a SuperSport, Katana is a sport tourer. They're completely different bikes. The ZX in your example is overpriced IMO

You're shopping used and in proximity to the GTA where some sellers are out to lunch on their asking prices and others price according to the market. Other than that, the Katana is IMO an ugly bike that few will buy so that seller may have priced it that way just because of it. The Kawi has low km's considering it's 10 years old and a good model, but that price...it's not $3750 good.

Ah, okay, maybe someone just thinks too highly of their bike. I checked the blue book value on the bike and it was $1700...

I have $4000 to $5000 to spend on my first bike, and I'm not sure where to start. I have been going over the classifieds for a few weeks now and the prices jump around like crazy. I don't want to go over 600cc (preffered 500cc) cause I only want to get hurt... not die lol. I'm also looking for something maybe 2002-2008. What should I expect for a proper price range for a street/sport bike?

I do have a lot of dirt biking experience and I took the training course.

#1 - check what your insurance rate will be. The insurance on ZX6R as a first bike will probably be double the cost of the bike, depending on your age. Why not stick with 500cc? GS500/GS500F or Ninja 500R? There are multiple huge threads on anything and everything related to the first bikes here:

I vote Ninja 300, but you'd need to save up about $1000 extra (not including all your gear and insurance).

you can pick up a 02 gsxr for about 3700, a 750 will kill or hurt just the same as a 600. its all up to you as the rider.

a guy looking for a 125 or 250 by all means stick with it. but the difference between zx6r and a gsxr 600/750 realy isnt n e thing.
both go over 200kph
both fall over
both pull wheelies
if the rider is able to handle a 600+cc sport bike then he might as well get a busa or gsxr 600/750 they all can kill.

Get a used Suzuki SV650. Very reasonably priced, aftermarket parts are plentiful and it's considered a sport touring bike. Get a 2004+ model.

some one deleted there post but.

96 gsxr 600 = 92hp
2006 gsxr 600 = 126
2002 750 = 140
2002 gsxr 600 = 115
the zx6 he posted is 116hp humm they look almost the same... non intelligent homosapien
second of all he posted up looking at a 2002 (guess some idiots think a 10 year old bike is no good? stupid people)

so he could handle any of the above the same.

if you think a 10 year old bike is gonna be any differnt then a

Sorry, but you sound like a complete noob to the whole motorcycling world.

It just seems as if every thread I come back to he's in there giving bad advice...

OP, your dirt experience is almost meaningless on the street (sorry, no offense meant). Start relatively small, like with a sport tourer and then work up. I wouldn't say start on a 125 or 250 since you're familiar with motorcycles in general, but definitely look at the SV650, it's an excellent torquey starter bike with manageable power. I have the full fairing version and it's a great bike. The 250 gets old pretty quick if you already know how to work a bike.

And older SS is still not a first bike. I wouldn't recommend the Katana either, it's a bit heavy and imo handles a bit rough for a first bike.

05-07 SV650S would be my recommendation. In the upper end of your price range, but they're bulletproof bikes.
