A friend's cousin in new jersey who's a ducati enthusiast
has a mint one. I expressed interest and was gonna offer
$5G's USD. He has 1-1198, 1-1098 xerox, an 848 and a 749.
Would $5,000 be a fair price for such a low mileage 916?

To me, yes. Although not quite a Cagiva Ducati which would make it cooler.

I would be a fair offer, but a bit on the low end.

I just used cycletrader.com to do a nationwide search for 1995 - 2002 Ducati's. There was only one 916, listed at $6500, but there were several 996's priced from $6000 and up depending on the edition. $5000 might be a bit low, but much more and you start getting into the newer 996 territory.

916's are somewhat of a collectors item now imo.. its low but theres no harm in asking, if hes insulted tell him to man up.
