so just before I go away on holiday I see a Uhaul van parked on my street , sits for about 2 dyas, and I leave. I tghink somebody has a kid coming/going to school?
Anyhow , my neighbour , retired undercover cop thinks it odd , so 75yr old stakes out the van. Photographs them coming out of the park trails at 2-3am . Some nieghbours have cars rummaged through in the middle of the night, some amazon stuff goes missing off porches. Neighbours sees the van move so he folloows it and watches the two suspects shoplift thier way through a local Fortinos grocer. He calls the Halton police and says , you may want to have a look at Uhaul, plate numer xxx parked at location xyz. They tell him they have undercover cars watching it. He apparently 'borrows' my dog for a walk from my dog sitter to circle the street an indeed spots the two undercover cars ( he was a career undercover guy) and then sits on his porch to watch the show. The van was a warehouse. 100ft from my door.
As cop neighbour Ed says , they dont rob poor neighborhoods.

Where is this warehouse? I'm looking for a home theater system and a 10' very short throw projector. Good used condition is OK.

Buddy of mine bought one of those…as I was explaining how the scam works he cut me off ‘I already paid $600 for it’

I laughed and I laughed. It hasn’t come out of the box for 5 years. I should buy it for a backyard movie night for $50 off him.

My friend does Leafs playoff games on the side of her garage with one.

This really reminds me of Fun with Dick and Jane. Who the F steals shrubs? You can't eat or smoke them, what in the actual .....?
We had a floral arrangement taken from our front yard.

A friend had a cast iron planter stolen.

A friend was having a house warming party and a suggested gift was a padlock and chain for the BBQ.

I’ve had a car, plants, even had interlock stolen

The plants and interlock were stolen when I was living in Mississauga

The Yukon was Georgetown

Someone in Barrie was complaining and posted pics of a lady in an Audi stealing her potted plant. In defence of the lady, the plant was close to the curb and right beside the garbage bin put out for collection. When people brought that up, the homeowner got super defensive. People need to take some responsibility. When a common social norm is to put things near the curb for others to take, if you put things there, you shouldn't get so upset if they walk.

Thankfully, where I get packages dropped off isn't very visible from the road. If neighbours get packages, I throw them in the garage for them. Less targets leads to less people trolling the neighbourhood.

I had what looks a lot like a fisher walk up to my door, take a dump and run away a few days ago. Is that pirate behaviour?

Fisher like the animal (I hope) or someone just done fishing?

By that logic, anyone could start a good business, tossing kid's bikes and toys left near the end of the driveway, into a pickup and reselling them.

One guy in the neighborhood had done just that. Pulled up one day and he was carrying hockey sticks down the driveway that the kids had left in front of the garage. I was none to pleased.

Normally, if it's something not normally garbage, there will be a note on it that one should look for, and it doesn't hurt to ask.

I agree and asking is a good idea. Kids stuff (bikes/sticks/etc) unless labeled as free I assume was left by kids. Compounding the problem in this case was the lady placing her garbage right beside the pot. That's just dumb. My neighbours put a ladder and standoffs beside their driveway with prices. They put their garbage right beside the stuff they were trying to sell. Garbage guy understandably threw the smaller pieces in the truck.

Last summer my kids were too lazy to bring their bikes up the hill to the house and left them at the bottom but on our side of the ditch. I caught a truck on camera stopping to pick them up around 6am. I searched the neighborhood for the truck as the neighborhood is pretty secluded but was never able to find it. Just keep telling myself that they must have thought that the bikes were left out for free. (But 10ft up the 50ft driveway?)

Edit: My kids were 4. To be fair I was the lazy one.

Some people are just opportunistic aholes.

A buddy was doing yard work, shovels, rakes, etc. on the front lawn. He goes into the house and a scrapper comes by and takes all the tools. They had him on camera and he regularly went through the neighbourhood but long gone that day. They confront him a few days later, their tools are long gone but he just says, here take these ones....
