Just saw an for this car on TV. Wondering who builds it and where it's from. Cargurus connected it to Volvo but then would not load. There is no name on their site other than Polestar. Any idea?

thanks. no chinese bikes so no chinese cars.

Polestar is a spinoff from Volvo but supposedly isn't Volvo. No idea why they did that. Aside from the name games, it's Volvo.

And yes, Polestar 2 is made in China.

Bear in mind that Volvo itself is owned by Geely in China.

Polestar is Volvo's sports performance and now electric car division. Sort of like AMG is to Mercedes

I'd still run from a "Chinese" electric car.

FWIW, I don't claim to understand this

The mark of shadiness. Take a company that is listed on the stock exchange and does nothing and have it "buy" your company that does something (even though the listed company had no money) and bingo bango, you're listed without having to go through so many hoops and waiting for approval. The fact that the exchanges allow this crap shows that they only care about letter of the law compliance not spirit of the law compliance.

Polestar "started out" as Volvo's performance division, but it has morphed into the EV division. I have no idea why Volvo felt that they needed to make a distinction...just sell it as a Volvo, complete with name recognition.

No thanks. (psssst, go Tesla, they still do it best)
My main problem with Tesla right now is that they make it as difficult as possible for anyone but them to service their cars. Honestly I don't understand why the US auto lobby hasn't nailed them to the wall for this

Because Tesla has more money (and therefore more lobbying power) than the rest of them combined? That's probably also the reason the "self-driving" beta testing on public roads is allowed to proceed unchecked.

Same reason why Apple, John deere and others do this.

And do you really think future ev makers are not going to go this route? Would be foolish not to.

By making everything proprietary,

It traps you and it works! $$$$

I don't have time right now, but if you google john deere and farmers, they are having this very dispute recently. JD won't let other people service their equipment

EDIT: Farmers Across America Are Suing for the Right to Repair Their John Deere Tractors - MotorBiscuit
