Wanted to share my experience getting my bike fixed. The motor had issues, sounded like the cam chain tensioner. Wasn't that. At that point, rather than trying to find and fix the problem, it's usually cheaper to get a new engine. So that's what I did.
Platinum Powersports did the diagnosis and engine swap-out work. Really good guys there, happy with their work, and more than fair on the price.

Got the motor from Cory at 402 bike, I don't know who has a 2004 bike with 9000k, but that's what he had. Worked REALLY late to get me the motor, thanks! Runs way better than the old motor, which had 46ish k's.
