Planning to attend Indi MotoGP 2013

Last time I went to MotoGP was at LagunaSeca back in 2011 and we had a blast. Only we had no bikes with us over there :-(
This time buddy and I planning to drive down to Indi and tow our bikes with my Magnum 5.7L AWD. So far I see a couple nice trailers from Uhaul (5'x9' and 5'8'). I've rent a motorcycle trailer from them before and it was good but you can carry only 1 bike on it.
Anyone else is planning to attend the event? Riding down there or driving?

Four of us are riding down: one R1, one BMW K1300, one VFR, one KTM Adventure plus it looks like one more guy but he wants to drive his car. We are leaving Friday morning (16th) and for the ride back home, we will leave after the race on Sunday, ride for as long as we want then crash at a motel for the night, spend the next morning finding the most "interesting (aka: twisty)" way back home while avoiding interstates (not sure how possible that will be though unless we go through Pennsylvania and the Allegheny Forest instead)...If the weather calls for nothing but rain, we will either drive cars or just scrub the mission...

im riding down. leaving thurs taking 219 down thru penn then cut across 70. Total time there should be approx 12 hours. way home is bomb the interstate thru sarnia 7 hours total. leaving monday morning

We were planning to cross over in Windsor / Detroit and take interstates all the way there (830km from Toronto to Indy according to Maps). Is this route via 219 and 70 more interesting?

Yeah, I was gonna say what is the best way to drive down there. On google maps it looks pretty straight forward.
401 > i-75 > 24 > 69
Does that sound about right?

I don't feel life riding my bike, tires are too soft. Towing it is.

Wow for those riding down... Have fun.
This will be my fifth time attending MotoGP in Indy...each time my buddies and i drove down in a car/van.
I would love to have my bike there but the 6 1/2 hour drive down is extremely boring... I repeat...EXTREMELY boring.
We usually stop off at a firecracker warehouse on the way down and buy some cherry bombs and what not to keep things interesting over the weekend.
We'll be leaving early Friday morning and coming back home after the race on the Monday morning.
The first time we went we tried to come home Sunday after the race and nearly died in the car because everyone was exhausted and the driver fell asleep. Lol

Edit: if you guys are looking for a place to eat while you're there go to Bub's Burger and do the Big Ugly Challenge!

I've done it 3 times now. Each time I could only finish 1 burger lol.

It's about a 20-30 min drive from Indy. It's worth the trip.
If you do it post a picture!

Hey guys.....is there anybody down at Indy heading back to Toronto with trailer space for a bike? I rode with a couple friends and one of their bikes died....looks like a regulator (I guess this is not that uncommon on a Ducati). Looks like a slim chance to find the part in short notice here, so looking at other options to get his bike back. Let me know if anybody can help, thanks!

Theres a lot of Canadians down there watching ..

Is there a way of reaching you if we can find someone ?

Thanks for the reply....I think we have a plan worked out. He booked a u-haul cube van to get it back, not cheap but at least it gets it home.

Thanks again

For those of you who commented about the ride being boring from Toronto (or anywhere else in Ontario) to Indianapolis - your comments were spot-on; that was such a boring, concrete and asphalt slab ride, even at speeds higher than posted on signs. We even veered off the main path over to Interstate 65 from Waterville to Defiance as suggested by motorcycleroads.com and what a snooze-fest...a few gentle curves but nothing more than that. It was my first MotoGP and unfortunately attendance was only about 20-25% (they claimed 60,000 people and it holds 300,000) so it wasn't a sea of people with banners, flags and hooliganism as you see at other MotoGP events - no doubt that my plans for the TT Isle of Man and Laguna Seca for 2014 should prove to be more engaging...anyhow, good weekend, good time and uneventful riding back and forth - hope everyone else who went had a good time.

Admittedly, this was fun - never saw so many bikes in one place at the same time - there were thousands in every direction and parked all over the place.

Buddy and I had a great time. Good thing that we trailered the bikes down cause I knew how boring the ride would be. Rode bikes down there even tried mad squid style with no bukets on......we had to try it just cause :)
We left on Thursday at 3pm and left Indianapolis on Sunday at 7pm......got home at 5am. Was so tired, never again.
This was my second MotoGP event. First time I went to Laguna and I must say it was better and the track is more interesting of course.

Laguna Seca and the IOM TT are both on my list for 2014...
