Planning a trip to the gap

Current plan is to ride down to the gap and back over 5 days. Hoping for a cheap solution to bring the bikes down in. Any suggestions? Budget before gas is well below $1000 if possible. How do you guys pull it off? I would rather rent something to bring the bikes down in so we can relax there and back and bring everything we need instead of a back pack.

Rent a U-haul for bikes
leave early on day 1 and get there same day
Ride the awesome roads for 3 days
Load up bikes in U-haul and drive back on 5th day

Some nice rides are Moonshiner's Hwy 28 and link up to Blue Ridge Prkwy
Cherohala Skywy
Visit Wheelers just south of the gap
Rip the dragon and buy a sticker at the resort as a momento

use a grand prix/ranger for towing and a linamar 5x7 utility trailer. Usually its about $200 on gas each way. The uhaul trailers are quite heavy, but an option. Were heading down again in July, good times for sure.

Borrow trailer from a friend?

What are you pricing for 69 cents/km?

Can your vehicle tow a trailer with the bikes?

The uhaul motorcycle trailers are $14.99 per day, they can't track mileage. I used one earlier this year and they are not heavy at all, I was able to push it around by myself. Not sure where you got .69 cents per km

No access to a van or truck with a hitch to put everything in a trailer. $.69 per km for a 14 foot uhaul truck. Looks like its going to be a monster ride there, while we're there and back.

I prefer 7 days riding for this trip. One day at the Gap just won't seem like enough.

In the event where "**** happens" :(

Me and my buddy ride to track days, I've done 3 total. Grand bend/Cayuga

I was asked once, "What is the plan if you wreck"
I replied, "I'll figure it out then"

7 days of riding is likely over kill for me. We wound up getting a truck, so more riding time. However, I don't log multple rides over 4hrs here very often. I have a feeling my first time at the gap I will be taking it easy and not over doing it.

We went last year and it was a blast. Did 1 week and only on day 3 I started to get comfortable with the road and drag the knee.
We trailered our bikes. HW i-75 is too boring to ride.

The trip is a go! Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to make this a great experience? I see there are so crazy roads around the dragon, maybe check out some dams, tree of shame, etc...
I'm so excited and I still have to focus for work in an hour. One simply cannot work and think about the dragon at the same time! Coincidence it matches my tattoo!

There are a bunch or ride reports done by people on this forum if you do a search. You can find lots of crazy roads, nice scenic places to take your breaks, places to eat and more. Ride the gap early to avoid the people who can't ride.

Here's a ride report I did of my last trip down there - lot's of maps and routes in the report: http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?178018-Ride-Report-Smoky-Mountains

A few amazing roads include: Moonshiner #28, Cherohala Skyway + River Road, Foothills Parkway + Little River Road, #281, #209, #215, #276, #226a, #80, Wayah Rd, Tellico Plains Rd, Ellijay Rd + Tilley Creek Rd.

I'm heading down on sunday morning ( to the dragon) we rented a PENSKI 12 ft cube. nice newer vehicle and the best rate around.
call them and see
