Would it be possible to mount a pitbull onto a Stinger trailer? Anyone tried? Thinking I'd probably have to get Willy the welder involved in the project.
The center U-channel rail on the Stinger looks narrower than the Pitbull TRS plate, so in order to get a flush mounting surface you'd have to either:
- grind down sections of the vertical edges of the "U" (greatly weakening the channel), or
- mount the TRS plate above the U-channel and deal with a +2" bump when loading and unloading the bike. Maybe fill in the entire channel with dimensional lumber so that it's level.
Not mine, but a pic showing both the bottom and sides of the rail:
Alternately, you might be able to cut the TRS plate apart and weld the latches directly to the U-channel so that the latches and TRS tube are flush with the top of the vertical edges of the U. The TRS tube would just ride on top of the rail rather than being flush with the deck. Whether this would work would depend on the spacing of the U channel and the latch-to-latch distance. You'd also really want to trust your fabricator/welder.
If you're not stuck on Pitbull, Condor makes a chock that fits on most single channel trailers. We had a Trailer-In-A-Bag with Condor chocks. Worked well.
What I was looking at doing is welding a square made from square tube onto either side of the tire channel, and then welding some diamond plate onto those squares. The base plate could be put on at the top of the tire channel on the diamond plates, and then cut so that the motorcycle could be put onto the trailer. Would the welding hold? Thoughts?
