Pirelli SC3 Tire Review

Hello Everyone...
Just thought I'd give my thoughts on the Pirelli SC3 tires.

Put them on after I took off the Metzeler TD tires that I destroyed at Mosport (see earlier review in the forum).

Took them to Grand Bend a couple of days ago and put them through their paces.
First off, the grip is great! Very confidence inspiring and consistent in their feedback. Towards the end of several longer sessions (it was an open track day so we could stay out as long as we wanted) of some hotter paced laps the rear would start to squirm a little under corner drive, but nothing too exciting or anything to cause a panic.

We were running the Technical Layout (Grand Bend), and managed to pip in a bunch of 1:13's, which I'm happy with.

At the end of the day I gave them a solid examination. My suspension was set up well, but there was a ton of rear tire wear. I think I'll be able to get 1 more day out of the rear at GB and it will be done. Compared to the Metzeler TD, the wear was highly accelerated. I think I could get 3 days out of a Metzeler and 2 out of the Pirelli.
The front SC3 showed some signs of wear, but nothing like the rear, I'm pleased to say.

I think I will go back to the Metzeler TD after this one is done on Sept. 10th.

That's about it!

Which "SC3" and on what bike?

SC3 means track-day compound, but that could be on a treaded DOT tire or slicks.

From Pirelli: How to choose the right Diablo Supercorsa sc compound

I am using SC1 slicks on my race bike at Grand Bend, and they hold up better than brand D, which I could not stop from cold-tearing no matter what I tried. Never-ending "you have too much/too little tire pressure" or "your suspension is wrong" (it isn't) were replaced with setting the front and rear hot tire pressures as per recommendations and they just plain work.

Pirelli SC3 WSBK hard compound on a GSX-r750.
I’m not complaining that they didn’t grip - they gripped very well. Tire wear pattern looks great. No issues with that. I’m just surprised that it wore that much faster than the Metzeler TD.
