By-Law 1151-2008 was put out by Miller to ban gun ranges in Toronto. The topic was recently brought up the same day the motorcycle parking issue came up.

Everyone knows how dumb this is as clearly the gun crimes in Toronto are not caused by registered firearm owners and members of gun clubs.

Please print the petition and get it filled up and send it in. From all the gun threads on this forum I know know there are pleanty of you that care about this.

Edit: Trying to get the pdf on here but having issues.

Unfortunately your comment about registered gun owners will get knocked down, by the first councillor you send a message to.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2008/01/14/tto-shooting.html

You would be far better off stating that the vast majority of lawful firearm owners are responsible, and that most gun related crime, in Toronto, is perpetrated with illegal firearms.

That comment is no where in the petition... How many gun incidents do we have an a year in Toronto? One happens in 2008 caused by a registered owner and it screws it up for all of us???

In the minds of the anti-gun crowd? Absolutely. They would rather take shots at people who are easy to find, rather than deal with the actual problem. THOSE people are SCARY!

Just read the article.
What a ******, lol. He used his registered firearm to commit a crime? If I were him, and licensed, I would never think about committing a firearm offense.

I think alcohol had a role to play

Obviously he was carrying without permit, as a carry permit is virtually impossible to get in Canada. Both of the guys involved were three sheets to the wind and the guy with the gun was goaded into taking a shot at the club's bouncer, by his idiot buddy. It's the sort of story that usually starts with, "Hey Cletus, hold mah beer", then ends with a body and police in attendance.

guns dont kill people....peolpe kill people....yes?

Yes.

Those guys should have never had those guns on them or in the car. If you take your gun to the range you are supposed to go straight home afterwards and lock it up again.

It would even be hard to get a permit to carry while in the woods for personal protection (I'm talking about handguns here), talk about getting to carry one in the city??

I think the exceptions are special security and law enforcement

Back when I was 20, I was told there were something like 7 private carry permits in the country.

Here is a copy of it that can be cut and pasted.

Re: By-Law 1151-2008

We, the undersigned, request that the City of Toronto repeal By-Law 1151-2008.
This draconian by-law, enacted by your predecessor, is unfair to businesses and shooting sports enthusiasts on many levels.
This by-law closed the range at the historic Union Station and the Scarborough Rifle Range as both these sites were on city property. Both these ranges were training facilities for Olympic team members, Air and Army Cadets, the Boy Scouts and shooting sport enthusiasts from all over the city. Both facilities were integral to the continuing safety and educational training programs that our sport offers. All of these groups have been forced into other facilities outside the city and to change their programs to the detriment to all involved. Not only has this by-law closed ranges on city property, it prohibits opening of new shooting sport facilities in the City of Toronto. Once a location closes, as in the case of the range at 605 Royal York Road, this by-law prohibits participants from establishing new facilities in the city. Many of our participants are senior citizens or disabled. Target shooting is one of the few sports that they can pursue. This current situation makes it difficult for them as the few existing ranges left are outside the City of Toronto.
By-Law 1151-2008 also prohibits the establishment of new businesses involving firearms in any way, be they retail or a service.
In conclusion, shooting sports are the most regulated, licensed and safety focused sport in the country. Our participants are approved and licensed federally (RCMP), provincially (OPP), and governed rigorously by the Toronto Police Services.
We are your constituents. We are taxpayers in the City of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area who work and shop in Toronto.
Mayor Ford, we request that you repeal By-Law 1151-2008. Let law-abiding citizens enjoy their sport in Toronto. Let us not be victims of political correctness and opportunism.

Actually the city might be safer if there were more gun ranges and criminals with unregistered weapons could practice. That way they might kill off more of their own drug dealing competitors instead of killing innocent bystanders with inaccurate shots.
