Passed my M2X on the weekend, had my M2 for 5 years but only got a bike and started riding this year.

Thanks RTI for the course and friends who encouraged me to go for the exit rather than just renewing M1/M2 for another 5 years.

I'm in Etobicoke with a SV650 if you ever want to head out for a spin...

Congrats and welcome to the board. I just got my M2 for the third and hopefully final time on the weekend. Now if I can just make sure I do the m2 exit while I have a bike that would be great!

Congrats!

Congrats. It's a great feeling, as if the weight of the world is off your shoulders.

Congrats!

How did you like the course? What was it like?

Thanks all!

For some reason I had thought it would be more "riding skills". As in "how to ride your bike" in general. Now that I think about it - I'm not really sure why... Probably just my pretty newb-ish view of "would be nice to know a few tricks / tips" for improving cornering or downshifting or .... whatever.

Instead the whole morning (8am-2pm or so) was focused on... let's call them "proper riding skills". Namely how to ride properly in a manner than is A) smart and B) will allow you to pass the exam according to the ministry criteria.

I can't count the number of exercises I flubbed in the morning and I think I easily executed 10x more U-turns than I have in my entire riding experience. That being said - when it came down to the 1:1 exam I actually calmed right down and the only real differences from my regular riding style and the exam style were: swiveling my head like a mad man, stopping before the sidewalk or the painted line at an intersection vs. stopping where I have a reasonable view, staying within 10% of the speed limit and double checking my over the shoulder blind spot on turns and lane changes. The last is something I will definitely do ongoing / day to day.

It was really nice having the instructor on a bike with us for the morning, gave a real "on the road" view of the same situations and 1:1 feedback as we each took the lead multiple times.

3 points off out of 26 (?) allowed on the final M2x. I can live with that!
