I’m rebuilding my little RZ350 race motor for this year as I had to replace 2nd gear, so I always replace the crankshaft seals when its apart as its cheap insurance against the left cylinder running lean.

I bought that set of seals in January 2020 the last time I had the motor apart and they were $24 for the pair. :)

I bought another set in December 2021 for a street bike I’m restoring and they were $44.

I placed an order this morning and they were $67. o_O

All the parts were from the same online retailer

Its craziness. People are just taking the piss now.

Raw material and freight costs have skyrocketed. The business will pass it all down the road to you.

Get used to it - costs of doing business are going up.
Yes , costs are going up but so is the level of greed.Take Home Depot for example. I pay $7 for a 10’ length of 1/2” EMT conduit from my electrical wholesaler, Home Depot sells that same conduit for $20.93 (it was about $15 two weeks ago. I pay $35 for a 10’ length of 2” EMT conduit, Home Depot sells that same conduit for $99( it was $73 two weeks ago). They are absolutely *** raping consumers and taking advantage of the situation.

Hmmmm...wholesale vs retail. I wonder what the difference is.

The Home Depot in Markham has been cutting their 3" & 4" abs pipes into 6' lengths. 3" x 6' is priced at $31.80, 3"x12' vs 12' is $42.60. So, if you need a 12' run you're paying $63.60+$3 for a coupler -- or $24 extra.

The difference is the obscene profit margin.
In most instances profit margin is calculated as a percentage of wholesale cost. The vendor's costs go up 20%, so do yours.
Not to excuse Home Depot if they are gouging - just go somewhere else.

Like maybe a wholesaler......or will they not sell you just one?

He is comparing wholesale prices to retail.
Yes, but also pointing out that my wholesale prices have not gone up nearly as much percentage wise as the big retailers, leading me to believe that there is definately Some gouging by retailers going on. Like TK4 said, just go somewhere else. It’s a free country…for now.

Wholesale vs retail and specialty vendors .
Home Depot has 80k sqft , lumber plumbing electrical hardware and ceramic tile . 3-6 cashiers , del drivers , contractor desk and helpers in the store

Your electric wholesaler has the same guy selling , answering the phone and writing up a sales order in a warehouse with no fancy signage or a decorating aisle .

It’s the cost of running two completely different businesses .

Also it’s Tuesday night at 8 pm and you need 6pcs of 1/2 “ conduit for a job you want to be on a 7am , 40 kms the opposite direction from your wholesaler that opens at 7:30 .

Looked at from the other directions, many electrical suppliers will tell you to pound salt if you try to buy many things from them without a ticket as they want to protect the profit of their larger customers. As a consumer, I either pay exorbitant material cost at HD and install it myself or pay a much larger bill and hire a contractor that gets the material cheaper and then marks it up to close to HD prices and charges me labour to install.
