Oh my poor 1980 Honda GL1100 Interstate. I was doing some slow-speed (10km/h) riding for about 4 minutes, lots of clutching/slipping the clutch. The clutch lever started feeling loose so I checked the tension and adjuster, it all seemed good. I tried riding some more but found it damn near impossible to downshift past 2nd. I could have stomped my foot hard on the shifter but it wouldn't go down. Then I noticed that even when I pulled the lever in all the way the bike still wanted to move forward, as though the engine and transmission were still engaged. I pulled-over to examine the bike and found a loose metal bit that came out as soon as I touched it. It came out from the hole where the arrow is pointing

This is the bit itself:

What is this? How can I fix it? What do I need to do/get?

Okay, I've been told that the little piece is the top end of my clutch cable. Thus, the clutch cable is broken. I need a new clutch cable. So, where can I get a clutch cable for a 1980 GL1100 Interstate?

I remember making and repairing my own cables 30 years ago from bits found here and there.Google "motorcycle repair kits".Rosey Toes might be able to help as well.
edit:looking at your first pic brings one word to mind.....lube.

With what? That lever looks pretty dry ... you should be using some form of grease.

I use chain lube and apply it a few times per month. you think I should pack some serious grease in there?

You don't need to fill it, heh. If you put some waterproof grease on there, or even just regular chassis/wheel grease, you would only have to do it once a year or so. Take the lever off to do it.

I would just go to the Honda dealer and get a new one.
The part number is 22870-463-670 and they are $22 in the US, so maybe $30ish in Canada.

I have a complete cable set for your bike. $70.00 and they R yours.
They are actually from a GL1000 but they used the same cables.

PM me if interested.
