Parking - Richmond Street West

I hate trying to decode parking signs, so if anyone can direct me to a city of Toronto link/site/page/etc. that can explain the following, it'd be appreciated.

On Richmond Street West just west of Spadina, there is green p street parking available on the south side of the street

The signs indicate paid parking from 8am - 9pm Monday to Friday/Saturday with the exception of "no parking" between 4pm - 6pm. There are a few other signs, like "no idling", "tow zone" etc.

Here's my question. With most streets in Toronto, it's free parking past 9pm on these streets, usually until something like 6am when traffic starts to pick up with rush hour, then your vehicle gets towed. So if it's unmarked, can you technically park from 9pm until 8am the next morning for free? Or will it be towed at 6am, even if there's no sign to indicate no parking at 6am?

Richmond West is a one way westbound, away from the downtown core so it's only no parking during evening rush hour. If there is no "permit parking only between 12-7 am" sign, then you can park overnight legally. But if it was my bike, I still wouldn't do it due to drunken 905ers leaving the club district nearby. That whole area is overrun with idiots on weekend nights.

You cannot park for longer than 3 hours unless there is a sign overriding the standard 3-hour-maximum parking for Toronto streets.

Permit-parking 12-7 is just one version of such a sign. 15-hour maximum is another such sign. However, without such a sign explicting extending that maximum parking time, the standard limit is 3 hours whether by day or night.

This is rarely if ever enforced, especially with a motorcycle. I know of no one who's ever been issued a ticket for this with a motorcycle. People park their bikes for free all day downtown.

"Rarely enforced" is far different that what you claimed in your first reply, where you said "If there is no "permit parking only between 12-7 am" sign, then you can park overnight legally."

I know people who have gotten such tickets, especially during the night hours when a over-parked vehicle of any type is much more likely to stand out. While you might avoid such a ticket during the parking chaos of daytime when there are plenty enough other parking offences of greater magnitude to deal with, night is different. The OP was asking specifically with respect to overnight parking.

It's Toronto parking bylaw offence number 2, so that might give you some idea how long it's been around. Warning signs do not need to be posted at every such location. In general, such blanket parking restrictions are usually posted at the entry points to a given town or city, like here at Eglinton east of Eastgate as you come into Toronto from the west end. http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=eglint...4UiEFlc0QkthpE5w9L7asg&cbp=12,104.56,,2,-2.52

I just moved into that area and haven't had a chance to change my address or deal with getting the permit yet fml...was struggling to find somewhere for the cage...bike is still at the shop. I'll deal with that later =/
