Parking Q

Where I park for work free parking spots (for cars) are at a premium. I noticed this week that some students have taken to parking their car on the lawn of their rented house and then use the raised curb as their driveway effectively stopping (or I guess they hope they are stopping) anyone parking on the street in front of this makeshift driveway. What would happen if someone parked on the street in front of this "driveway"? Would they get a ticket or is the parking spot the students have created not a legal one? I'm wondering about this because if all the students started parking their cars on the lawns of their rented houses the free parking on this street would effectively vanish.

umm, pretty sure if you are parking on the lawn and someone parks on the street (not blocking an actual driveway), there is no way the car on the road will get a ticket...if anyone is going to get charged it will be the car that created it's own parking spot on the grass.

At the very least I hope the landlord gives them hell as they'd be completely destroying the yard/grass. Also I'd be more worried about the idiot on the grass hitting my car as they try to leave their 'makeshift driveway'.

If there is no curb cut then its not a driveway and you won`t be ticketed for blocking it. They will however be ticketed for parking on their lawn. I would also be concerned about them hitting my car as they tried to get off the lawn however. A few calls to by-law until they get the idea its a no-no might be worth while.

The people that park on the street are mostly ******** anyway and can't park (I'm considering handing out a few "you park like an *******" notices), I was just concerned that the limited spaces are being made even more limited.

Nothing happened...I thik the student knows they are illegally parked but want to keep it quiet which means that I think I now have my own parking space seeing as how no one else wanted to be the one to try this.

Or they're gearing up for something passive-agressive and annoying. Keep parking there and know that you're in the right, just be prepared if shtf unexpectedly

I remember a few years ago they banned parking more cars than the driveway was built for, but iirc, there was a a clause where people who had been doing it were grandfathered in

Also John, most of the students probably only have Daddy's car for a few weeks, and won't be parking the car there for long. They also don't (probably) go in and out much during the day anyway.
