Parking on a hill

Reminder to new riders...
It should go without saying but it slipped my mind today and now I have to pay the price. ALWAYS PARK WITH FRONT TIRE UPHILL. The weight of your machine is more than enough to fold up your kickstand on even a small hill. Which sucks for me because I've now dropped my bike for the first time.

Anyone know how to get a flat spot out of the side of tank?

An experienced rider told me to park my bike in first gear... so that the bike wouldn't slide...

put your bike in gear when parking on a hill... the rear wheel will lock until you pull the clutch in or put it back in neutral

all wonderful advice when the engine is off. Not so hot if you're just stepping off to adjust something or talk to someone.

and dont forget, it has been really hot these last couple weeks and asphalt is not all that friendly to side stands!

Simple solution to that as well - don't do it when on a hill. You may need to park on a hill sometime and not have a curb behind you to put your wheel against. Leave the bike in gear and you'll have no problems.

I assume if the same works on cars ( with manual tranny) it should work on bikes as well....

So yeah as Jinny said, Park in first gear.

Problem is if any one plays with the bike and presses the clutch lever ,she'll roll.

** parking uphill? put in first with front tire towards the hill top.

** parking down hill? I dunno...cause you do not have a reverse gear.

It doesn't matter if parking up hill or down hill, the bike being in any gear will prevent it from rolling. If someone is gonna screw with your bike and play with your clutch than yeah, if it's a very steep hill and the bike is facing down it the bike might roll forwards off the stand. I don't park my bike pointed straight down a steep hill so I don't worry about that much.

+1 for keeping it in gear, never neutral when on a hill, with the tail downhill

Also remember to take the "slack" out of the transmission if you can't avoid parking it facing downhill.
I just roll the bike forward the 2-3 inches for the gears to engage before resting it on the kickstand.
