Painting a pipe. Beyond BBQ paint?

Getting ready to paint my old 4-1 pipe. Is there something better than BBQ paint??

Also I was thinking about going old's cool and painting it white. Any good options there?

VHT Paint, but it has to be cured
Can you fit your old 4 into 1 into the oven?
I don't think so. And certainly not if the Squeeze is about.

A white pipe? Anyone else think that will look good?

I've had good results with VHT flat black
Just left it in the sun to cure for a day
Hasn't chipped or peeled
Good prep is key

On the vehicle seems easy enough (assuming you can get it on without damaging paint). Off the vehicle will be hard as most people can't get to 650.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the VHT is the way to go and cure it with some exhaust heat.

Back to color. Thoughts on white?

I don't think VHT white stays white. I painted an old BBQ like a Canadian Flag using VHT white and Red. The white turned into a brownish off-white within a few hours of use. I cured it properly.

It will be hard to cure VHT with exhaust heat, the top of the headers will burn the paint before the lower end is hot.

If I did white, I'd use white fiberglass header wrap. A 50'x2" roll should do about 16' of 45mm exhaust pipe, $25-30. Also cuts down on a lot of prep, you need to be completely rust and grease-free for header paint.

I'm afraid the color won't last well too. I think it's back to black

Also I thought about the wrap but it's not the right period/feel for this bike in my opinion.

For longevity of the colour on an exhaust pipe, you might want to check out ceramic coating. High Tech Coatings (no affiliation) does this work. For more info call 888-225-8648; open from 10am to 4pm eastern M-F (some weekends); located at 2256 County Rd 31, Ruscom ON N0R 1R0.

Maybe it just needs a good cleaning.
Thread 'Exhaust cleanup' Exhaust cleanup
Nope. It had some kind of ceramic coating that has discolored in some spot (heat?) and chipped off in others. I have to use coarse sand paper, renewed often, along with lots of elbow grease to scuff it.

FWIW I read your exhaust thread and if you guys think Autosol is good you will be gobsmacked by how much better Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish is.
