Paint Question - Satin Finish

I picked up a Yamaha TRX some time ago and am just finishing off the resto. I know its not everyone's cup of tea but....

Its a European model and the original paint had a satin finish. I'd like to keep it as close as possible to the original but so far most people I've spoken to won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. They say the reason is that its very difficult to get a good finish if you can't buff the clear out.

There are a number of people the US who could do it but does anyone know of anyone local that can. Its basically a tank, 2 side panels, a tail and a half fairing. The bodywork is done and its in primer.

Any decent painter can do it, it's just an additive for the clear coat. If you are looking for the bike to remain in a showroom condition it is definitely more work. Because it's an additive the painter can control how glossy or flat the finish is. The flatter the finish the harder it will be to keep it that way. My XS650 is satin finished and it has remained the way it was sprayed since we kept it sort of shiny.

As long as you are sure you understand the limitations there should be no reason for a shop to not do it, but they will want to put extra time into the prep work to ensure that there are no imperfections. Most shops just won't want to deal with a customer who doesn't understand the limitations and comes back complaining when it doesn't stay the way it was when it was fresh.

john deere blitz black [not trolling]

check out for lots of info http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/john-deere-blitz-black-31993.html

Be warned it buffed to a glossy finish between my legs after a few years. It's more of a show paint than a regular black with clear coat. You can buff it with peanut butter to somewhat restore the satin look [again not trolling... guess I have to mention this these days :) ]
