Recommended paint for handlebars, engine parts etc..

I have an '84 magna and most of the engine casing is black as well as the handlebars, oil containers on the bars etc.. It's not worth it to have the bike totally painted or powder coated i just want to touch up some nicks and marks.

I googled and a lot of people say that BBQ paint like this is good for engine parts: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/3/HouseHome/PaintStains/SprayPaint/PRD~0480648P/Armor+Coat+BBQ+Paint.jsp?locale=en

What about the non-hot parts such as handle bars and oil containers? Use the bbq paint on that as well, or maybe Tremclad?

I used paint from these guys before, needed a small amount of black for my Vstar frame, matched perfectly :)

The bbq paint or any high heat resistant kind sold in spray can form is OK. As long as you don't expect very durable finish. I mean it will hold on, but scratches will appear, rocks and pebbles will leave marks. The stuff is simply soft as it never cures to very hard form.

I've used Engine paint before on the front exhaust manifold on a car way back and it worked like a charm. That gets insanely hot.
Also, DupliColor has some nice high quality heat resistance paint. Well for a aerosol can at least.
Cheers

spill gas on a hot engine that has been painted/clear coated, it all blisters off, get it powder coated

On the cheap the duplicolor spray bomb engine/header paint worked very well the two years I had the bike and didn't peel at all.I bought it at crappy tire, was ceramic and good to either 500 degrees Celsius. It also promotes heat conductivity and is oil resistant. If I had to do it over again I probably would as I just saran wrapped and taped the parts I didn't want to spray.Honestly it came out unbelievably well, people who do paint thought I had the motor done professionally. If you do it make sure you use a stripper that prepares the metal and stay away from all high heat clear coat as it yellows over time.Obviously not as good as powder coat but super cheap and fast .The bike had a bad valve gasket leak and never peeled. That's how I'm doing my motors from now on.
As for the rest of the bike I doubt it since It has to bake on to fully harden.Spray bombs generally suck because the paint always stays soft and you can't add hardener. The bike will really smell like pop corn for a few weeks when it when ever it gets hot until it fully cures. It works great on the motor though.

That would be due to improper prep and finish. I have been using BBQ for years since I find the VHT flame proof is so expensive. The key to using BBQ pain is to bake it in the oven for i believe 10min at high 450*. I have done this for years and never had an issue with it chipping or flaking off.
