Ownership

Hello everyone,
Recently I bought a 1989 FZR400. My dad called his insurance company and got quotes if I added a motorcycle to his plan. - $1015 (3rd party coverage): This was if he was the owner of the bike. Then I got myself a quote alone - $1850 (3rd party)

My question was does my dad need to have a M licence to have ownership of the bike in his name. The lady on the phone told me since he is not the owner/ he doesn't have a M licence, thus I'd have to make my own policy. Is this true? Or can my dad add a motorcycle but have me as a rider on the plan. The company was The Personal insurance

Background info
18yrs old
G2
M licencing since May 2012
Etobicoke

Cheers,

If (and when) you have a claim, the insurance company will investigate. If they discover that you are the primary driver and have care, custody and control of the vehicle (ie, who's $$ went to pay for the bike, who did the maintenance, repairs, etc), they can deny the claim.

Remember it's not the $1,000 - $2,000 claim you need to worry about, but the $100,000 injury claim. You can be injured or someone else can. There are many threads in the new rider section of accidents and drops. Better to be honest and up front to avoid hassels later on.

Whatever you do, make sure you have yourself listed as the primary rider on the plan to avoid problems later.

Some people asking similar questions have been attempting insurance fraud so you will get some pissy answers here, hopefully someone has been through this before and will provide useful information.

Thanks, I was planning to pay for myself buddy.
Was clearing my doubt on why my dad got lower quote when he doesn't have a M licence.

Because he's not 18?

Because he's not 18?

Don't think I made myself clear.
-At first the lady said insurance would be ___
later on tells us he can't have insurance because he doesn't have licencing.

Entire post was to clarify if he could add a motorcycle to his plan and have me as a rider- and i guess its a no...

You own and ride the bike, the policy should be in your name and should be rated for you as the rider.

That's the cost of riding a motorcycle.
