Overtaking at an Intersection

YouTube has an option to playback the video at 0.25x the speed; I just noticed there was a passenger on the bike.
 
Looks like the green car was on the right side of the lane (two lanes?) just before entering the intersection and attempting the left turn...
 
Looks like the rider (passenger? whoever it was in "front" of the car by the camera's view) went into seizure/convulsions shortly after impact... made my stomach turn...

On the one hand I want to yell at the people who seem to just be standing around gawking (and the driver of the car who *looks* like he's trying to take a picture with his phone/camera) rather than call for help, but it's hard to really tell wtf is even going on with half the people here... appears at least one of the two had their helmet removed -- every time I see someone do this I cringe. An impact like that, who knows what head trauma you're exposing, especially given the aforementioned convulsions...

Either way, that is one nasty situation for all involved. And a reminder to ride responsibly and always watch what is going on around you...

Apparently the passenger was the riders younger (kid) brother. Watching full screen in HD you can see what happens. At impact, the the passanger actually 'slides' up the riders back and does a front-flip over the car, landing on the road. While hurt - he (passenger) seems ok - as he moves himself to a sitting position on the curb.

Certainly a tough video to watch. I hope everyone makes a full recovery.

Watch the video again. There are 2 lanes total, one in each direction. The bike was trying to overtake the car that turned left. Whether the car was signaling I can't tell.

I can't tell from that video what the lane markings look like and from which lane the car turned. I can't tell if the bike or the car were in the proper lane or not, I also can't tell if the car signaled.

How were you able to determine what happened?

Just like that stupid biatch downtown here that hit a cyclist. Was only worried about her car at the time. On the phone. What sort of mindset are these people in. Send them to a second world country and have them do volunteer work for a minimum of a year. No phones, no nothing. Perhaps then they will appreciate what that have. Perhaps????
 
A second world country? But the Soviet Union and it's associated communist countries don't exist anymore..

Well it would have made a good story.. Sentenced to serve their sentence in the second world before they can return home, they travel from country to country searching for the fabled land of Lenin.
