out of town ticket options

Hey,

Curious if anyone exercised an option of taking an out-of -town speeding ticket to Toronto office of Justice of Peace. I'm willing to pay the fine, but I'd rather do it in few installments if possible. Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Is that an option???

If you get a speeding ticket in Ontario, on the back of the ticket you can see your options. A speeding ticket will indicate the one location where you can bring your ticket in to request a trial. I believe you cannot request a trial by mail anywhere in Ontario.

Example... If you got a speeding ticket around Ottawa, you cannot request a trial at a Toronto office or court

You can request a trial by mail in many places still, but not in the GTA or other big cities (Ottawa, Sudbury etc.) You MUST request a trial where you received the ticket. If it's too expensive find a decent paralegal.

It's been over a decade since I got a speeding ticket, but I did just get a failure to produce insurance and blocking license plate. On the back of them it said I can request a meeting with the prosecutor over the phone if I lived 75km away.

Unfortunately I missed the mark by about 4km and decided just to drive to Newmarket and do it in person. Both were withdrawn of course.

If you have an Ontario ticket, I believe, you can go to the local court service to apply for a trail, but the trail venue itself still will be at the address stated in the ticket.

Aside of the trial option, which I don't want to go for.. I was thinking of paying the fine, since it's not huge and no points are involved.
I'm just wondering if I can take it to the office of Justice of Peace on Edward St, simply just to get an extension on payment..
Thanks for all replies guys.

I may be confused though - possibly taking it to j.o.p office is an equivalent of taking it to trial..
I'm just going to call the court and inquire. Thanks for your help guys.

Just to state what's been stated a hundred times.

Insurance only cares about convictions, not points.
