Ottawa road trip

If you take 7, lots of cops out there. Only 80 max there.

Ditto! Speaking from personal experience, OPP is all over 7, 60, 41, etc on any long weekend.
Stick to +10KM max above the speed limit on these and use them to link up the fun bits of Peterson, Calabogie, Lanark, Tatlock, and others as desired.

7 is under construction between Havelock and Perth right now! Don't do it! Really boring ride anyway... Evang's right, a MUCH better ride on Hwy 28, 41 etc...

Cheers
Phil

^ I'll second this route. Done it many times before. Great ride.

Really appreciate providing that route!! It'll be tough on a 600RR as I'm going to do it in 1 day. Any advice?

Joe

Stop in Almonte at Equator coffee roasters for some of the best coffee you'll get. You won't care about sitting on the 600 after that.

Just ride, that's the only advice. I do the Ottawa trip twice a year minimum on the R1 and it's a breeze. If this is the first time, just take your time and stop every hour or so to stretch and replenish; plenty of scenic spots to do that.

I'm doing Toronto to mont tremblant this Friday on a 1000rr, you'll get tired but it's worth it :)

Watch out for the Quebec cops as soon as you cross over into the province. The locals are really good at letting you know so watch for the flashing headlights. Also they appear to like handing tickets out for loud pipes. I haven't had problems but I know people that have.

Thanks for the heads up, I do have an aftermarket pipe, but what, do they expect us to leave our exhausts in ontario before crossing?

even if you were to get a ticket in Quebec, not sure if they even have an agreement with Ontario that would stop you from being able to renew your license.

I got a large speeding ticket in 2005 in quebec. I've renewed my license twice since then no problem. The ticket also has never appeared on my abstract.

Just wrapped up a 1000km trip to Ottawa and back!
Highway 509 was absolutely epic (at least compared to anything I've ridden in the GTA). The sign was not wrong when it said 32km of winding roads ahead.
Thanks for the great route. Took 401 to get back to Toronto, big mistake!
