It's either this or a Ducati Monster 796.

Thanks.

First bike?

The Duc makes more power, and is likely to be more expensive for parts and maintenance if you don't do the work yourself. It's also air-cooled, so keep that in mind for days like today. Otherwise, looks like a solid bike, but I have never ridden it, so I'm just basing it on specs.

The FZ6R will likely be cheaper for parts, but it also makes less power. Have you considered a pre-08 FZ6 instead? Those put out 97 HP and they are very good bikes. If you insist on new, why not check out the FZ8?

But, can't go wrong with either. I'd go with the FZ6R out of the 2 you listed.

Second bike. My 2009 ZX6R was written off so looking for something more comfortable to ride.

I can't offer to much I'm afraid. But I did a demo ride on gsx650f, and it tends to get reviewed alongside the 650 twins and other de-tuned 600's. From the couple reviews I saw, overall the fz6 did very well. I'll leave it at that, best bet is if you can actualy test ride one for a bit. I was surprised how much I spotted things I liked or didn't like from a quick 30 minute ride.

Ah, so handling power isn't an issue then. The Monster and FZ6R are going to feel like runts compared to your ZX6R. The FZ6 will be close, the FZ8 will be better. Why not try an FZ1 or Ninja 1000, or something along those lines? Heck, a Triumph Street Triple or Speed Triple may be up your alley. Upright seating position, decent comfort, more than enough power and agility to handle the twisties.

It's up to you though, your choices aren't bad. But in my opinion, coming off a ZX6R, especially the 09 which is fantastic, I'd want some ponies with my comfort.

Insurance is half of what my ZX6R was so thats not an issue. Hell, insurance is cheaper on a Ducati Monster 1100 by close to 500 dollars.

Had an FZ6R a couple years ago. It's a fun bike, capable enough.
I would say the drawbacks are a non-adjustable suspension (except rear preload, which I ran at max, even by myself) and that it revs kind of high. I would suggest a +1 on the front to make it less buzzy at highway speeds. Puts the speedometer right in line too (reads 8% high).

Can't get slip on exhausts - it's welded from the headers. You can replace it with r6 headers, but one pipe will need a slight reshaping (torch and hammer taps) to clear the engine case.

There's a big forum online as well if you want to google it.

With insurance not being an issue and comfort being a strong factor in your decision. If you have made up your mind on either the FZ6R or 796; I would have to say pick the FZ6R. The riding position on the two bikes you have chosen are quite similar, but the full fairings should offer more wind protection especially at highway speeds.

My wife rides a FZ6r and likes it a lot. When I bought the street triple I test drove the monster 796 and was happy with it other than the electronic display. Compared to my old ZZR and the Triumph, I find the FZ6R very comfortable and very forgiving in the throttle and clutch. However, when I twist the throttle on the highway I'm more likely to drop a gear or two than compared to the other bikes I'm familiar with.

Mayhem rides a 2009 FZ6R...talk to him. He looked at a lot of bikes before he got that one. I know there's also a girl on here that rides the same one as well (the yellow and black) but I don't remember her 'handle', sorry.

I remember a posting while back, these are two different bikes. FZ6R is basic as can be with the fairing and lesser hp, FZ6 has more features but naked. Between the two, i go with the naked.

Guys, I can scoop a 2009 fz6r with very minor cosmetic damage - windscreen and minor scuffs for 4000.

Good deal? It has 10,000 on it.

Thanks

that is a good price, most of the ones I see up here are 6000+

I'm still holding out for a black/gold 2010 model

I ride my FZ6R as my daily commuter. I take it up north to the cottage and do 5+ hour rides all the time and it's pretty comfortable. It's not going to have near the performance as the ZX6R but it's still fun and capable in the twisties. And I agree.....$4,000 seems like a steal as long as it wasn't dumped too hard and the damage is only cosmetic.

Seller was shady and evasive.
Passed on the deal.
Still on the hunt for a new ride.
