Opinion on bike purchase. cbr f4i

My buddy has an 01 with as much as 80,000 kms on it. And I would buy it for 3 grand tomorrow.
However, he is super anal...spends more time washing and maintaining it than riding it. He is the orig owner and has loved the bike since new, and it shows.

Depends mostly on how it was treated.

The f4i is a great bike. Ask if it has a manual cam chain tensioner installed yet. If not you will likley be installing an ape one sooner then latter. The stock ones tend to die.

I second this. A buddy of mine has one with 48k on it and its spotless like the day it was new. He does have other rides but he won't seem to part with the cbr because its been nothing but good since new.

I just broke 60K on mine this week, I've had my ups and its had its downs (twice), Far from pristine, but it handles my commutes everyday rain or shine, They can take a beating.
Checked vales at 50K and everything was in spec. Great bike for longer rides then every other SS.

For sure the F4 is a great bike but like any other it has to be well taken care of. It could be a decent deal but be sure to take someone who know's bikes well to inspect it.

^ Exactly what this guy said. Having 32K is nothing extraordinary on that bike, just matters on how it was maintained. You can run some questions by him, and depending on his answers / hesitation it might give you an idea if he knows what he is talking about.

- How often is the chain adjusted?
- When was the last oil change? How often are they done? What kind of oil is used? Synthetic, Semi ? etc.
- Have the valves ever been adjusted?
- What kind of tyes are you running on it?

If his answer is just "I just take it to my mechanic" then you could be a little wary.

The F4i is a great bike! $3500 is a fair price range for it but as others have said it depends on its true condition. I really do miss that bike though, she was my first =)
