Open face helmet vs full face helmet - whats better for GTA?

Most bikes I see on the road - full face

My Estimated riding is around outskirts of GTA 60-80km / hour I would imagine, no major 400 series driving predicted :)

Open face helmet - too risky for around GTA riding? It just seems so much more free! Or will it get too windy?

Well I dunno about anywhere else, but for the GTA, I'd say no helmet at all.

LOL, j/k

Just sounds funny that you specifically asked about the GTA, as if riding there would require a different type of helmet than riding in Cleveland or Boston or San Francisco,LOL

An open face helmet does not provide adequate protection to the front. (Duh!) As far as I am concerned, there is no valid excuse for not using a full face helmet all the time and I wouldn't even think of doing otherwise ... anywhere.

When i first started riding last year, i hated the full face helmet in the summer, but i would never go without one, ill deal with sweating rather then risk mangling my face if i ever have a serious crash. But thats just me. lol

If i had a cruiser i might go without the fullface though.

I'd rather sweat than get pelted in the face with bugs and debris.

+1. Always full face. I once heard that a very hight percentage of helmet impacts takes place in the area missing on a open face helmet.

Especially on the highway when it's raining. Imagine being needle-pricked over and over again all over your face. That's open-faced in the rain. You don't even need to crash to feel pain.

I know a couple of people who have landed on their faces. Reconstructive surgery can do wonders now, but you miss out on a lot of good riding.

But a beanie is so much fun! You damn safety patrol! Wear what you want. At least die with a smile. Maybe no one will see it but, it will be there. OK, maybe not.

I know the risks. I wear a beanie. You get used to bug guts. If I wanted to be safe, I'd drive a cage. To each their own. And stupidity. I also enjoy sun bathing and that is just plain dumb. See, I'm completely mad.

If you want to take assorted flim-flam to the face as some show of manliness, just ride around with your FF visor open all the time.

Keeping a motorcycle upright while being stung by an insect inside a FF is where it's at these days, anyway.

When I had my accident last year, the area around the chin of my helmet took the brunt of the damage as I went sliding on pavement. Can't imagine my face today if I was wearing an open face helmet.

Well these guys seem fine with open face:

I also see Harley riders with open face. Sport bikes I notice mostly full face.

What about FLIP helmets? Worth it? Probably around extra 1LBS to wear? Is that noticable? I think if ur cruzing in 40km/h zone, flip to open face :) Seems like a neat idea, but what do I know - I never rode yet :)

love my flip, but don't ride with it open (blocks the view)

I've tried riding with my flip open around town, but it catches the wind and tends to turn the helmet into a bit of a top-heavy sail even at lower speeds and that is not very confidence inspiring. So now it's flip-closed unless I'm stopped. I do prefer to ride with my visor open whenever possible. My visor usually goes down only when it's very cold, raining, or when traffic ahead of me is stirring up debris or dust.
