Oops a car boo boo Any good body shops?

Wifey got too close to another cars bumper and has reshaped the sliding van door. I haven't heard anything good about Maaco but since it's a four year old Chevy we aren't looking for Rolls Royce either. Can anyone recommend a decent west end TO shop?

TIA

I had good luck with Redline Customz. Coworkers cousin owns it.

It's not which body shop, it's who does the work. I've seen excellent work and really shoddy work come out of the same shop, through numerous shops. If you don't know exactly who's doing the work, it's a gamble

Not always true.

The Ford dealer in Guelph did the body work on my Porsche (I know, bad idea, but that's where the insurance company suggested) and didn't even take out the dent. Just repainted it. I argued with 2 employees and the manager and they all said they did a great job (kept going on about how well they matched the colour and ****, I don't care how well they matched it if there's still a dent in the side of my car). Ended up going to Atlantic Collision in Mississauga (near work, suggested by insurance after I complained to them about the other place). They said the other place did a **** job. They fixed the dent but ****ed up the paint. After 3 resprays and the paint still being ****ed, they refused to work on it anymore even though they admitted it was still ****. Insurance then told me to find my own place. Redline Customz finally fixed it right. Turned out the first place had used non-paintable gravel guard on the part that was supposed to be painted and that's why the paint kept separating. Redline had to scrub it all down to the bare metal and start from scratch. It was over $1k worth of work. However, insurance refused to pay anything over $200 because they had still been paying the other shops (don't ask me why they would pay for an improper paint job, I sure wouldn't have) so the shop just absorbed the extra cost because they wanted the work to get more exposure.

Redline will get all my paint work from now on. Those other two will never see my business again. Although I was warned ahead of time about that Ford dealer because they've ripped off my parents on cars a couple of times (but it was like 15 years ago so I thought maybe things had changed).

I haven't had a car painted in years, but my suby's accumulating a crap load of rust. What's it cost these days to get an entire car painted? On average, I mean? It'll be the same colour, and the most prominent rust spots are on the A-pillar and under the gas fill cap.

Sorry for the thread jack :D

Re: Oops a car booo boo Any god body shops?

I've been told by most places, depending on the amount of prep, about $3k for a "proper" job. I have no idea what that entails. But I've gotten quotes as low as $1500. If you prep yourself, the actual painting should be cheaper.

Re: Oops a car booo boo Any god body shops?

LOL I have no intention of doing any prep work. I've attempted painting stuff myself and doing proper prep work is a massive PITA.

I had about $2-3k floating around in my head but wasn't sure if that was still applicable...what with the economy and all ;)

That and my car is a goddamn wagon with that fancy world rally blue paint. That stuff is expensive.

Re: Oops a car booo boo Any god body shops?

I know the thread is older, but I thought i'd comment.

A paint job on the outside of the car, provided there is no rust, to do a proper job (removing mldg's, handles, etc) look to pay $3000-$4000. (base/clear) I wouldn't bother with anything but that.

As far as insurance companys are concerned, they have direct repair places (Place's they want you to go)
ALL that you are required to do is go there for an estimate and photos.

If where YOU want to bring it to isn't on "their list" they will give you some BS about them not warranting the work.
ANY good shop will warrint the insurance repairs anyhow. Choose a good shop who you want to do the work, its YOUR CAR and YOUR policy. You have every right to decide where it is repaired.

And there isn't anything wrong with DRP shops either. Our shop is a DRP with co-op, aviva, economical, and a couple others.
We always tell people there rights though.
