Planning a trip with the wifey. Leaving from Ontario to the Florida Keys.
We aren't expecting to have anyone on the last few legs of the trip, but if you are interested in going to PA, WV, VA, or SC we'll be stopping through. Also planning a scenic ride across the Appalachian mountains. Pace will be speed limit + 10. No day is longer than 5 hours of riding so it shouldn't be too fatiguing. I have done a few long trips like this, but this will be the first one for the wife. We are both M riders riding on 04/05 250 ninjas. We will be stopping for a service somewhere as well (oil changes), likely in SC on the return.
Itinerary:
ON to Erie, PA 468km 5h 16m
Super 8 Hotel - $65/n
Erie, PA to Summersville, WV 501km 4h 42m
Super 8 Summersville - $60/n
Summersville, WV to Roanoke, VA 269km 3h 43m (scenic)
Hampton Inn - $51/n
Roanoke, VA to Orangeburg, SC 535km 4h 51m
Days Inn - $53/n
Orangeburg, SC to St. Augustine, FL 456km 4h 6m
Days Inn, $60/n
St. Augustine, FL to Ft. Lauderdale, FL 457km 4h 19m
Red Roof Inn, $56/n
Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Florida Keys 268km 3h 22m
Unknown, $150/n for two nights
Total cost is going to be about $2.5k for the both of us, $800-$1000 for hotels, $800 for gas, $800 for food.
Biggest wrench in the plan is the possibility of hurricane season. July is normally pretty mild, but there is always a possibility. If that is the case we will probably just avoid Florida, turn around and start heading back.
We aren't much of photo takers, so we probably won't stop/take back roads too often, but the day that we ride through the Appalachians we plan on being scenic.
Typically on the road by 9am-10am depending on breakfast, checkin at the next stop by 4pm. Arriving any later and you can really get screwed with bad hotel rates. Nothing is set in stone and we will probably change it up as we go depending on traffic etc.
If you want to do an overnight to Erie PA we will be leaving on a weekend so it should be pretty easy to join up for an overnighter.
Cheers

Oh and PS.. if you are an idiot and run through a toll booth like the last person I went with, we'll be leaving you behind
