Ontario Tag-o-rama.....Dirt Version

So, the idea is to get out and ride to some cool places off road in Ontario like the other tag-o-rama thread, but being off road, it will need some modifications.

It will be a mascot/gps kinda game, like geocahceing (sp?) I guess.

Da rulez....

1. Any place you can ride to legally in ontario with a blue or green plated bike is a legitimate tag location, if you need a pass so be it, buy one and support the sport or wait for someone with a pass to move the tag elsewhere.
2. No asphalt/pavement in the shot, gravel, farm roads are good. Boat launches, docks, piers, damns, bridges are ok as well.
3. A tag will need two photos, a wide shot with the bike the mascot on it at the hiding spot and a closeup of the mascot and gps on the seat showing the exact location of the hiding spot, ideally a unique rock/tree/culvert/sign/stump etc.etc.
4. There is no time limit between old and new tags, but you should place it that day, not on your next trip etc. Your tag could become void in 24 hrs (see #5) or if you place a tag that is deemed unattainable as in it effectively ends the game.
5. If you ride to a tag location and the mascot is gone, post the pics of the bike and hiding spot with gps sans mascot, if the new tag is not posted in 24 hours after your post, or the mascot got eaten by a bear, stolen by a crackhead etc. the tag is yours. Choose a new mascot and place the new tag.

Tomorrow I'm off to the dollar store looking for a mascot.

I want to limit the rules and all...but I am a newbie on this dirt stuff so any input from the more experienced riders is welcome...the game should be fun and accessible for all, not the burma railway of off road riding ....that will be another thread.

Some guy named craig, looks kinda cool....

The gps thing is due to the lack of street signs and addresses, if your car gps shows the coordinates of the place it will do fine, you don't have to map it or mark it, just take a pic of the screen.

Maybe a smartphone app can suffice in lieu of gps?

The other solution would be to post a google maps link or something people could get the location from.

This game is not so much about finding the location as it is about the ride there, hence the posting of the location that is exact, I can see 'landmarks' working on back roads, but the woods?

Thoughts?

I suppose even a cheap hiking style gps would do that? I thought about the app, but my phone is also the camera lol. Guess I just have to ante up, and get a gps. My new vstrom doesn't like to ride too much pavement.

Anything that will show a set of coordinates for some to ride to will work. A screen shot capture of your phone showing location and a pic of the bike/mascot would work, after we all like to look at pics.....

For sale
Garmin Etrex Legend Cx GPS
Plus Metroguide Canada V4 (routable)
This GPS has the same functionality as the 60CSx but with a smaller screen.
Ontario maps are loaded but you will need to buy a $10 dongle (http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-usb-pc-cable.html ) to transfer other maps from Metroguide to the GPS

$125 + shipping (paypal gift)

Okay Stevie Get it going. I don't have GPS so hopefully pics will have enough description to find it without. Is a limit to distance going to be set or are we going to the outer limits. I seen a post earlier that said it is only going to rain twice in the next week, the first lasting for 3 days and the second lasting for 4 days. Make sure the Mascot is waterproof.:lmao:

Just checked, my garmin nuvi 1490 will show gps coordinates if I just press "where am I?" Duh! Cool I'm in!
Still going to look into other options at a later date.
