Online shopping do's and dont's

Isn’t that a good way to get them to report you to the credit bureau if you’re a ‘no payment’ type? Technically if your card runs out but you don’t cancel….you’re on the hook.

Sirius doesn’t report to either credit bureau. I’ve been a customer on and off for years and it’s never shown there.

Besides, they always pre-charge I believe so there’s no actual post-pay, always pre-pay. So credit card coming back as invalid just means you get your service turned off eventually.

Imagine that you are some poor soul that's for whatever circumstance is working at a call center and answering the phone for sirius is your only employment option.
The wife worked as a csr at one of our finer financial institutions where they require the csr's to hard sell their other services to every customer on every visit without exception as a term of employment.

Every yr when my SXM bill comes, it's huge.
I call up (one of the best places to get a human, quickly) to complain, saying it's way too much, and a few more excuses to bail. Always re-directed to retentions.
I paid $76/yr in 2010, and I'm still paying that.
If they weren't so easy, I'd have been long gone.

SiriusXM is notoriously easy to negotiate retention deals with. I swear, it seems like a few times I wasn’t far off them paying *me* to keep my service activated.

They might have if it was during one of the times they were recruiting investors. Subscriber numbers dropping looks terrible. I know a few legacy people that have subscriptions but I dont know of any friends or family that have a subscription started recently (other than in-car freebies that were not extended).

Magazines (Remember those) get a lot of revenue from advertising based on PAID subscriptions, even if there is a massive discount and a free gift.

Disagree. I leave lots of legit 5 star reviews on things as do others.

As someone who's had PayPal not only lock my account, seize money that was in it, but also forcefully take money out of my bank account and credit card to reimburse a fraudster, I disagree. PayPal is scum, and is just as apt to protect scammers as they are buyers. Been there, done that, got the Tshirt.

What I do with anything dodgy is to use my Stack Mastercard. It's basically a prepaid credit card with an online portal/app on which you can load money (conveniently using Interac etc, they're Canadian) and use that. It comes with a physical card as well if you want, but the app also provides a "virtual" credit card number which is the one I use online.

Best part is that you can "Freeze" the cards instantly via their app, so for some online purchases where I don't want to use my real CC I load money onto my Stack account, unfreeze the card in the app, process the transaction, and then immediately go back into the stack app and freeze the card again.

I use the physical card for things where I also have a level of skepticism that the card might be skimmed or whatever. Not only do I never keep much money in my Stack account to begin with, but with the card instantly frozen after I use it, it's useless to them anyways.

Works awesome and presents zero risk.

One of my own personal tidbits is...if you're ordering anything from the USA and UPS is the only shipping option, run away....far, far away. Anyone who's ever been stung by the UPS brokerage fee nonsense knows what I'm talking about.

And on the topic of Amazon reviews, checkout FakeSpot - you just dump an Amazon item URL into it and it spits out what almost always ends up being the items "real" rating with all the fake junk separated out.

I detest it when a US based company treats everyone like an American. PayPal is basically an American bank and they really p****d me off when I tried to help a member with shipping costs for some basic medical and handy stuff to Cuba. This a Canadian trying to help a struggling Cuban. PayPal, keep your butt hurt out of it.

If PayPal is so gung-ho American why was I dealing with someone in Ireland to resolve the issue?

P.S. I would have assumed getting six dinosaurs as well. For $5 is it worth the reporting, repacking, trip to the post office etc?

I just assume that every cashier at every line up is told (Or forced) to sell credit cards, reward cards, extended warranties and the supersize option. Financial institutions are the worst because they know what you have in your pocket.

I sympathize with attractive women that constantly get hit on, one way or another, countless times a day. Sexual harassment vs financial harassment. It gets tiring. She's not a piece of meat and I'm not a piggy bank.

If a bank wants my attention offer me a savings interest rate that is at least half of their lowest credit card rate. Crickets.

Or "would you like to donate $x to <________>?" at Walmart of all places. Excuse me? Each one of the Walton is worth tens of billions of dollars. They have their own multi million dollar bunker just in case an Eat The Rich plan gains traction. Why the hell would I even think of giving them a donation?

I wont donate to those types of schemes. Clients sometimes push to "donate" to xxx based on the value of business done the previous year. Press release comes out as yyy donated $$$$ to xxx. No they didnt. They organised/extorted that amount from people, it wasnt their money donated.

A tip depending on the site you're looking at purchasing from, put the items you want in your cart and then walk away for a day or two. Most of the time you'll get an e-mail with a discount code. As a result I have now just ordered a space cats printed top, like a proper adult; sitting with my feet in warm light up unicorn slippers resting on my triceratops ottoman.

Gonna call BS on the slippers without pics.
